Marion Cunningham Obituary

Marion C. Cunningham

AGE: 98 • Cedar Park, TX

Nov. 18, 1914-Aug. 17, 2013

Marion C. Cunningham, 98, of Cedar Park, Texas went to be with our Lord on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013. Born in Lakewood, NJ, Marion lived in Lakewood for 95 years before moving to Texas in 2010, where she could be cared for by her Texas family. Marion was a graduate of Lakewood High School, Class of 1932 and had been employed for several years at the Building Department of Lakewood Township. She was a founding member of the Gamma Sigma Chi sorority at the Lakewood Y.W.C.A. and was an active in the Mother's Club at St. Mary's Academy. She was also a member of the Lakewood Heritage Commission for many years. Marion made her dancing debut at age three. She was interested in the theater and had performed in many plays. She and her dancing partner, the late Frances Rogers Gargan were well known for their tap dancing routines which they performed at many benefits, local venues, and area hotels. They also taught tap dancing to many area children.

Marion enjoyed traveling and loved keeping a beautiful home. She loved having flowers on her table which she expertly arranged. We know that she is surrounded by gardens of roses, mums, violets, and tulips. Forever dressed in perfectly matched outfits, she always looked elegant and now looks dazzling in her gowns of shining light.

She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Hobart R. "Bart" Cunningham who passed away in 2004. She is also predeceased by her parents, Thomas Howard Chadwick and Macie Kennedy Chadwick of Lakewood; and her brother, Thomas K. Chadwick. Marion is survived by her dear sister, Alice C. Taylor, NJ; her loving daughters, Kathleen Miri and husband, John, Texas and Macie Karpowicz and husband, Paul, NJ : her five grandchildren, John Ryan Miri and wife, Ellen, Robert Miri and wife, Luz Adriana, Texas, Peter Schardien and wife, Elaine, NJ, Melissa Foltz and husband Jeff, NJ and Susan A. Karpowicz, Florida, as well as 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Marion's family is grateful to the staff and devoted caregivers at Cedar Ridge Alzheimer's Center as well as Resolutions Hospice of Texas who ensured that she received the highest quality of care and comfort over these past three years.

Cremation will be private. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary's Cathedral, Austin, TX. Interment to follow at a future date at Greenwood Cemetery, Lakewood, NJ. Arrangements by Beck Funeral Home, 1700 E. Whitestone, Cedar Park, TX. Online registry at www.beckchapels.com.
