Nicholas Alexander Obituary

Nicholas Alexander

Ocean Township

Nicholas A. Alexander entered into eternal peace on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, following a long courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Nick was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School in 1956. He went on to attend King's College in Wilkes Barre, PA on a full Basketball scholarship, graduating with a degree in Accounting in 1960. While there, he was Student Council President, and chaired many clubs and organizations. He also served his country in the U.S. National Guard in Long Branch.

Nick worked his entire career with KPMG Peat Marwick, ultimately attaining the position of Managing Partner of their Princeton office. Some of his many career highlights include serving as New Jersey health care practice director, associate SEC reviewing partner, and Partner-in-Charge of Princeton's accounting practice. During his 35-year KMPG tenure, Nick was responsible for major clients in four different lines of business, most of them in the financial services. In his early days, he also taught Accounting at Monmouth University and Brookdale Community College.

His community appointments are heavy on the academic side including, the advisory councils of Rider College and Trenton State College. Also as a member of the board of visitors and development council at Monmouth University. Nick served as a Director of the Mercer County Chamber of Commerce, and a recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizens Award. He also sat on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations.

Nick was a co-founder as well as a member of the Board of Directors for Monmouth Community Bank, Long Branch. He was a past president and member of Navesink Country Club; member of Metedeconk Country Club, Jackson, NJ and Boca West Country Club Boca Raton, FL.

At the young age of 55, he decided to retire and become a full-time husband, father, and most of all a grandfather. His daily routines included changing diapers, sporting events, kid's birthday parties, a golf game, and taking his wife to dinner almost every night. Another great passion of Nick's was golf. Any where or time, he was ready to tee off. He enjoyed many outings with family, friends and colleagues and loved playing the many great courses around the world.

Nick was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Josephine Alexander, as well as his brother, Frederick Alexander. He is survived by the love of his life Barbara, who was not only his best friend but his soul mate. Barbara knew after seeing Nick one time that he was hers. She made it clear to her friends by saying, "I'm going to marry that guy some day," that they indeed would share a life together for 53 years. Surviving also are his loving children, son Anthony Alexander, and daughters, Frances Alexander Golden and Mary Jo Alexander Hart; sons-in-law Gregory Golden and Charles Hart, Jr.; and sister, Angela and Mark Pimentel.

Nick was blessed with 7 grandchildren, his "Magnificent Seven," who he simply adored as much as life itself—Mollie Alexander, Nicholas Alexander, Gregory Golden, Matthew Golden, Amanda Hart, Christopher Hart, and Charles Hart, III. No one can compare to their Pop Pop.

Nick's love for life was contagious, which by his smile and mere presence was evident. He lived every moment to the fullest and seized every opportunity to enhance the lives of those he loved. Our lives are hollowed by his loss but our hearts will cherish and hold his being forever.

He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Red Bank. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, Dec. 11 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Red Bank. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Nick's honor and memory to the curePSP Foundation, 30 E. Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, MD 21093, or www.curepsp.org.
