AGE: 83 • Brick
Peter Joseph McKeown, 83, of Brick passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Pete was a loving husband, caring father, adoring grandfather and good friend.
Mr. McKeown was a business man working for Coleman Management in Sea Bright until retiring in 2012. He was the owner of the former Sea Bright Pub for many years. He proudly served his country stateside in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1955. His memberships included the Point Pleasant Elks, VFW post #8867 in Brick, and the Belmar Fishing Club. He also was a communicant of St. Martha's RC Church in Point Pleasant.
Born in Elizabeth NJ, and raised in Newark, he lived in Hasbrouck Heights, Avon-by-the-Sea, and Point Pleasant.
Mr. McKeown was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Rose (Flood) McKeown. Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Rita Marie (Coleman) McKeown; sons, Thomas Matthew McKeown of Boise, ID, James Coleman McKeown of Brick; daughters, Nancy Eileen Stamberger and her husband, Garry of Brick, and Elizabeth LeNoir-McKeown of Spring Lake; his sister, Patricia (McKeown) Jones of Maryland; niece, Colleen (Perry) Hanabergh and son Stephen of NH; and grandchildren, Julia Rose, Peter Auguste, Megan, Colin, and Richard.
Visiting will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday 11am at St. Martha's RC Church Point Pleasant. Burial will follow at St. Catharine's Cemetery Sea Girt.
