Retha Woody Obituary

Retha Mae (Harvey) Woody was born to James Harvey and Lillie Rose Pride in Bartow, Florida on January 17, 1927. She was educated in the Public Schools of Columbia and Leon Counties. She was married to her childhood sweetheart, Dempsey Woody, Sr. and to this union twelve (12) children were born. Her Secondary Education included training at Northeast Florida State Hospital to become a Unit Treatment Rehabilitation Specialist and she was employed there in this capacity for twenty-three (23) years. She retired from the State of Florida in January of 1991. She gave her life to the Lord at a very Young age. Most of her Christian Walk took place at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Wyndell Wallace, Pastor. She was the Mother of the Church, Church Secretary, served on the Finance Committee, and a member of the FMBC Choir.
She leaves mourning and missing her: Dorothy Woody – daughter (Lake City, FL), Delores A. Varner-daughter (College Park, GA), Dempsey Woody, Jr. – son (Tallahassee, FL), Jacqueline Jones – daughter (Lake City, FL), Yvonne Gordon – daughter (Lake City, FL), Douglas Woody – son (Tallahassee, FL), Marie Woody – daughter (Lake City, FL), Cary Woody – son (Ocala, FL), Angela Woody – daughter (Lake City, FL), Retta Woody – daughter (Norfolk, VA). Her two deceased children are Lillie Lewis – daughter (Lake City, FL), Samuel Woody – son (Tallahassee). She leaves 22 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, November 6, 2009 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Mt. Pisgah AME Church. 519 NE Washington Street. Lake City, Florida.
Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. Birley Avenue Lake City, FL.
