Richard Bascom Memoriam

In Loving Memory of

Richard S. Bascom

08/10/1965 - 09/06/2003

On September 6, 2013 it will 10 years since the passing of my son, Richard S. Bascom. I know I am not the only one to have lost a child, every day I read of young people passing and I hurt for their parents. I also have close friends who have also lost their children and I know it makes no difference what age a child is 3 or 30, there is nothing worse than losing your child. I wish I could tell those other parents that time does heal and that it gets easier, however, you don't get over it…you only get through it. I miss him as much today as the day I lost him; he is my first thought in the morning and my last when I go to sleep. What helps you get through it are your other children, family and friends. I have been fortunate to be surrounded by the best; my daughter Adele Bascom Poplawski and my son Michael J. Bascom, while mourning Richard themselves have been there for me, along with their spouses; John and Kathy and my three grandchildren Kyle Bascom, and Jared and Rayna Poplawski. Each year my children have arranged an event to support the Richard S. Bascom Scholarship Fund…….which was their inspiration. They established a Non-Profit Organization on which several friends and members of the Community serve and along with them and all those that have donated and those that attend the annual event more than twenty-five scholarship's have been awarded to local high school students; assisting them in continuing their education. These recipients are students that have maintained an impressive grade point average, participated in school events and have been active community volunteers. The success of this Scholarship Fund has ensured me that Richard's memory has been kept alive…..and that

is important to me. I want to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of people who have supported this Scholarship Fund………….special thanks to the owners and staff of the Headliner, the members of the Scholarship Fund Committee, Neptune Township Officials and staff (active and retired), members of all the Monmouth County and Neptune Township Emergency Services Officials and Volunteers and countless others who have always been there

for me and my family.

This year's scholarship event will be held at the Headliner on October 23, 2013. For tickets or information email me at [email protected].

I think of Richard often and miss him very much, I cannot believe these past 10 years has gone by so fast. He was always a great friend to me. I will never forget Richard and all of the fun times that we had together. Please know that he is thought of fondly and spoken about often.
