Richard Saffadi, 79, of Spring Lake, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in the Sudan, he lived in Alexandria Egypt and moved to this country in 1963 settling in Ridgefield. He moved to Spring Lake in 1984. He was a graduate of Victoria College in Alexandria Egypt attending from kindergarten through college. He was a chemical engineer and worked for J. P. Stevens before his retirement. Richard was a member of SAMPE, a Professional Engineering Society. He was a member and communicant at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nina, in 2002. Surviving are his sons, George R. and his wife Lesley of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Sam and his wife Sally of London England; and three grandchildren, Alexander, Amelia and Isabel.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 28 at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar. Family and friends will gather at 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 29 at the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catharine's Church, Essex Avenue, Spring Lake. Entombment will be in St. Catharine's Mausoleum, Sea Girt.
