Richard Vivian Obituary

Richard J. ("Dick") Vivian

Manasquan - Richard J. ("Dick") Vivian of Manasquan (77), died February 22, 2021. A 1961 graduate of Freeport High School on Long Island. Married Vivian Lee, often-after, clarifying her first name was the same as her last. A renowned one-handed pool player, wonderful storyteller and "outside the box" thinker. He had a great sense of humor and never lost an argument (from his perspective). Served U.S. Army (1962-1968) and actively supported his local VFWs. He built a successful career in computer sales and marketing. His later years were spent at Perry's Trophy in Long Branch and as a bridge operator for Monmouth County's Glimmer Glass Bridge (ultimately his favorite). He was a lifelong fisherman, beginning at his beloved Breezy Point, NY. He competed in numerous deep-sea fishing tournaments. A crafty man who made his own lures and ran 16 fishing lines off a boat that never tangled. Also known to drive his Lincoln Continental home with tuna or shark sticking out of the sunroof. He had many a fish story to tell, except most of his were true. He is survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters, 5 children (Michael, Brian, Daniel, Christopher and Deborah), 8 grandkids, 1great-grandchiled, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless cherished friends. His cremains will be given a Military Burial at Sea by the U.S. Coast Guard. Donations can be made to either Long Branch or Manasquan VFWs.

He talked a lot about the successes in the family. Right in the middle of the pep talk before the Ocean /Manasquan game, a favor was granted by the coaches to pull his grandson for a photo op
