I remember a night, back in the 1970's, when I was so overwhelmed as a new charge nurse on BBR-II, that I actually put my head down on an empty exam table and began to weep. That is when a kind and charming resident named Bob Hershkowitz, smiled down at me and told me not to worry about a thing. He told me to cry all I wanted to, while he went out on the floor, answering call bells and emptying bedpans. From that moment on, Bob has lived in my heart as one of the finest human beings I have ever known. Rest in peace, my dear friend, and know that you are a well loved man.

Sorry to hear of Dr H's passing. Agree that Dr H was one of the good ones without the ego. He made the best of the changes in medicine and adapted. Was happy to have him as a mentor and a colleague. RIP.

What a wonderful man & Dr. he was. Such a genuine, sincere & funny guy. I was a nurse in the ER in the early ‘80’s. He was kind & loved teaching the residents and the nurses. He did not have that giant ego so many docs had. Thinking of him, brings a smile to my face, may he RIP. God Bless his family & friends. May God heal your broken hearts and lift you close to him, Amen.

My sweet, sincere sympathy´s to family & friends. One of the greatest docs and men I have ever met. I was an ER nurse in the early `80´s. He treated every person he met like they were the only person in the room. He was sweet, kind, funny, smart, a teacher & a great Dr. But mostly a family man. 11 grandkids, WOW. All these yrs later, an MMC alumni told a group of us he had passed. My heart leaped at the joy of knowing him, but more the joy of seeing a man that enjoyed every aspect of his life. I actually remember his smile and his laugh. What a great tribute to leave behind for all your darling grandkids. Bye my friend. See u in heaven, for a lovely hug my dear, sweet friend.

Our deepest heartfelt sympathies to Bob´s family. He will be forever remembered as the most caring doctor we have ever met- the old- fashioned kind who was a slave to healing. He asked a million questions to get to the bottom of a medical problem, and when he had all the answers, would say "What else can I help you with?" Bob would run over to the house in a heartbeat if needed any day if the week, at any hour. Bob became our friend in addition to being our Doctor. He was a true legend in the medical world and the Ford family will miss him terribly.

I have known Bob for forty eight years We were residents at Monmouth Medical Center and became instant friends and have remained so all these years. He was also my primary care physician. I could always count on Bob seeing a patient of mine or doing a consult on one of my patients. Bob was a brilliant physician and diagnostician. A group of us, physicians, spent many a day in the lunchroom discussing medical conditions, the teaching of residents, and how the changes in medicine has affected our practice of medicine. We also had plenty of laughter talking about old times.l played many tennis matches with Bob and he was a great player and competitor.I spoke to him a few weeks ago and told him how much he was loved and prayed for by me and all his friends .He will be greatly missed by his patients, friends, but mostly his family. Bob RIP
