Robert "Bob" Shappell

AGE: 63 • Randolph Center, VT

Robert "Bob" Shappell, 63, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born November 18, 1949 in Camden, NJ the son of Frank and Mildred (Marvitz) Shappell. Bob attended Palmyra (NJ) schools and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1970 and served during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge from the service Bob worked as a "Master" electrician in the Palmyra NJ area and later in New Hampshire. He was married to Mary Hughes April 12, 1975 in Surf City, NJ. The Shappells lived in Manahawkin, NJ until moving to New Hampshire in 1976. They moved to Morrisville, VT in 1994 and to Randolph Center, VT in 2006. Bob owned and operated Shappell Enterprise, Inc. He enjoyed hunting, saltwater fishing, boating, winter sports and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time on Oak Island in North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Shappell of Randolph Center; his daughters, Kate Collins and husband Tim of Quechee, VT and Erin Sourdiff and husband Collin of Jeffersonville, VT; his mother, "Millie" Shappell of Lynchburg, VA; 2 sisters, Joan DiLeo and husband Joe of Palmyra, NJ and Janice Silk of Lynchburg, VA; 4 grandchildren, Nicco and Taylor Sourdiff and Olivia and Lucas Collins and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father.

Memorial services will be held Friday, March 22nd, 1:30 P.M. at Bethany United Church of Christ, Randolph, with Rev. Robin Junker officiating. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to; Oak Island's Beach Preservation Society, 4601 E. Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465. Online condolences may be left at www.day funerals.com Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home, Randolph, VT.
