Roy Henry Schaefer, age 85, of Tafton died Monday, September 8, 2014, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, after a brave battle with ALS. He is survived by his wife, the former Marie Saccone, with whom he was blessed to have spent 61 years in marriage. Born February 7, 1929, in Union City, NJ, Roy was the son of the late Albert and Josephine (Rohr) Schaefer. Roy served in the Naval Reserves, but was then drafted into the Army where he served as Staff Sergeant in the infantry as a radioman in the Korean War. After his discharge, he was apprenticed and became a tool and die maker for Curtis-Wright. He later became an engineer and quality control supervisor for Singer-Kerfott. While working full-time, he took night classes at Rutgers and Fairleigh Dickinson Universities to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree. Following his retirement, he worked as the activities bus driver for Wallenpaupack School District, which was to become his favorite job of his life. Formerly of Sayreville, NJ, he had been a Tafton resident for 26 years. While living in New Jersey, he had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Veronica's Roman Catholic Church, Paupack.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Diane Lupino and her husband Jim of Miami, FL, Susan Knapp and her husband Curt of Scottsdale, AZ, and Laurie Condiracci of Delaware; five grandchildren: Madison Lupino, Christopher and Ashlee Knapp, Courtney and Jillian Rae Condiracci; one brother: Kenneth Schaefer of Florida and a nephew: Kenneth Schaefer Jr. of Florida. He was preceded in death by a nephew: Steven Schaefer.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
