Theresa Maloney Obituary

Theresa R. Maloney

AGE: 86 • Red Bank

Theresa R. Maloney, 86, of Red Bank, passed away at her home on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Theresa was born in Nursing Child's Hospital, New York City to Michael John and Ellen Russell, both of White Wine Lane in Limerick City, Ireland. Theresa was employed as a typist in her youth at Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China in New York City and after her marriage to Patrick J. Maloney on March 31, 1951, they lived in Washington, DC where she worked at the Bureau of Standards in the Cyclotron Laboratory.

In 1953, they moved to Red Bank Manor and started a family with Deirdre, Tara, PJ and Maura. After the four children were launched at respective colleges such as Immaculata and Villanova, both in PA, she stayed in her field at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Holmdel where she did commanding work deciphering scientific papers for a good number of years.

Theresa's hobbies included ceramics, entailing firing products in her own kiln, making gifts for children and grandchildren and on occasion for the members of River Plaza Hose Co. Fire Department where she spent many years in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an active member of the Springview Garden Club where she resided. Her other interests were traveling to Ireland where she pursued Irish genealogy, tracing her family roots to Arklow and Limerick City. She attended genealogical seminars at Trinity College, Dublin and Arklow, County Wicklow.

Theresa enjoyed summering in the Adirondacks with her family and good friends on the Racquette River for 47 years. Mom's greatest joy was being surrounded by her family. She had special fondness for the formal gardens of the world, Kensington in London, Phoenix in Dublin, Edinboro Royal Mile, Lanhydrock, Isle of Wight and also was an aficionado of antiques and became quite knowledgeable of early Irish furniture and glass.

Theresa is survived by her husband of 63 years, Patrick J.; a son, PJ Maloney of Spring Lake; three daughters, Deirdre and husband Larry Giordano of Wayne, Tara and husband Walt Kingsbery of Shrewsbury, and Maura Maloney of Red Bank; nine grandchildren, Michael, Jeffrey and Lauren Giordano, Walton, Katie and Joe Kingsbery, Patrick III, Ryan Russell and Kathryn Maloney.

A memorial gathering will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 21 at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22 at St. James R.C. Church, 94 Broad St., Red Bank. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in her memory to Killannin Church, In Memory of Theresa Maloney, Rosscahill, County Galway, Ireland.

For over 40 years summer began here onthe Racquette River with the arrival of the Maloneys. We are now in the 4th generation of sharing the beauties of this site and the friendships we have enjoyed . The summer romances..and other escapades..we always awaited learning of Pat's latest invention or scheme of taming the wilderness he

re..of the bond between Theresa and Susie that was highlighted with Irish Tea and lots of conversations. Life goes on and I'm sure our children and grandchildren will carry on the bond of friendship that our families have created. We all miss Susie and now Theresa, their friendship was special and that's because they were and are so special to all of us.. God Bless you all. Jim
