Theresia Schneider Obituary
Avon - SCHNEIDER, Theresia (nee Zettl), 95, of Avon died Sunday, July 20, 2019.
She was born in the Fall of 1923 in a Farming Village south of Budapest, Hungary.
Married to Peter Schneider they moved to Austria in the early 1940's. A son, Johann, was born in 1943. In the late '40's the Family moved to the Munich area in Germany. With limited work potentials they immigrated to the USA, NYC in 1952 and in 1954 to NJ.
Theresia worked as a Seamstress in a women's dress factory.
Having a desire for the "American Dream" they purchase an Ice Cream, Hand dipped Chocolate and Luncheonette in Newark, NJ, in 1960.
Theresia cooked, Peter made the Ice Cream and Chocolates.
On their day off they loved the Jersey Shore. Eventually they bought the Poughkeepsie Hotel in Asbury Park, NJ in 1968. In 1970 they acquired the Avon site. Peter passed away in 1975. Theresia continued SCHNEIDER'S Restaurant, with love for her "extended Family", for 48 years, serving traditional German-American food and Home Made Ice Cream. She called Avon-by-the-Sea her permanent home for those 48 years.
Theresia is survived by her son, Johann, Daughter-in-Law Beverly, Grandsons: Hans wife Julia, & Christopher wife Vicky, Great Grandkids: Carolyn, Katherine, Dustin, Ian & Abbe.
Gathering and Service will be Saturday, from 10 AM until the service at 10:30 AM at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. Committal will follow in St. Catharine Cemetery, Wall. I was saddened to her about Mrs. Schneider's passing. She was always kind and sweet. Schneider's Restaurant was always one of our favorite places to eat! it is missed and Mrs. Schneider will be missed. May she R.I.P.

Deepest condolences to the family. I loved working at the restaurant. She was always kind to me, and I learned a lot working there. Best food around! She was always the first one in the morning, and stayed through the dinner rush. Greeted everyone cheerfully no matter how long a day it had been.

To the Schneider family may she Rest In Peace. Mrs Schneider was like a second mother to me and so many more. She would always have my family in her prayers when I was 9 years old my dad died and Papa and mama Schneider were the first to see we had everything we needed. I remember growing up in the restaurant and having my favorite waffle with chocolate ice cream folded in half with a plate of pickles. To Johann and his family I will never forget the love she had for all of my family and the great stories I have to share about her. May she rest now job well done faithful servant. May she now lay in the arms of her love. As well as enjoy the great welcome to Heaven she received.

Our Ft. Monmouth lunch group had many wonderful meals at Schneider's over the years. We considered it our clubhouse, and had our annual Christmas gathering there many times. When one of our members passed, Mrs. Schneider and her son went out of their way to console us by kind words and a large Black Forest Cake (Ira's favorite) on the house. I am so terribly sorry for the family's loss, first the restaurant, now their matriarch. May she rest in eternal peace and make Jaeger Schnitzel for those in Heaven.
