Thomas Horan

Thomas Horan, 89, of Saddle River, formerly of Forked River, and Hasbrouck Heights, on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011. Prior to retirement, Tom had been a salesman for North Jersey Equipment Co. and W. A. Kraft & Co., Teterboro. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He had been a Cub Scout Leader, Little League coach and a member of the Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad in Hasbrouck Heights. Upon retirement to Forked River, Tom taught Coast Guard boating safety and engine mechanics courses for many years. He became a member of the Flotilla 7-12 Coast Guard 5th District, NR Auxiliary Power Search and Rescue Squadron earning the rank of Commodore in 1995. He was also a member of the Fish Hawks.

He was the beloved husband for 67 years of the late Peggy Horan; devoted father of Sandra Healey and her husband Jim of Woodcliff Lake, Rhonda Nelson of Hackensack, Doug Horan and his wife Linda, and Lindy Ott and her husband Philipp, all of Lexington, Va.; dear brother of Jean Bonnell of Lancaster, Va. and the late George Horan; loving grandfather of Dawn Healey, Kristen Healey, Sean Healey and his wife Rose, Kevin Healey, Kirk Ott, Tootie, Travis and Trent Nelson; great-grandfather of Joshua, Nicole, Matthew and Dana Garden, Jake Healey, Petros and Oliver Nelson.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Pascack Reformed Church, 65 Pascack Road, Park Ridge. Donations in memory of Tom may be made to Hasbrouck Heights Volunteer Fire Department or your favorite charity. Everyone is invited to a "Celebration of Life" repast in the Fellowship Hall at the church immediately following the service. Arrangements by Robert Spearing Funeral Home, Inc., Park Ridge.
