William Belson Obituary

William Thomas Belson

AGE: 18 • Freehold

The world has lost an old soul at the tender age of eighteen. William Thomas Quadrigesimus Belson of Freehold, NJ, passed away on June 26, 2016 at his home. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, William lived with his mother in Freehold, NJ, up until he started his college career as an Honor student at the University of New Mexico where he resided with his father in Albuquerque, NM. William was an AP Honors Scholar in the Humanities program at Howell High School where he was surrounded by 30 brilliant, wonderfully unique young friends who shared in their love and passion for philosophy, literature, religion, art, music, history and language. William was an intellectual and lover of people and education. William had the honor of meeting and taking photographs with Attorney General, Paula T. Dow, and New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner when he won an award through New Jersey State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Law Day 2011 YouTube Contest for a video he created on the theme "The Legacy of John Adams, From Boston to Guantanamo." William loved philosophy, whether it was Nietzsche or modern ideas, science of physics and agriculture, history and politics and Bernie Sanders. William was involved in long term volunteer work including training of therapy dogs and volunteering for HABcore where he baked and delivered desserts to boarding homes to the homeless and disabled in Monmouth and Ocean County. Through his volunteer work, William set out to make the world a more caring place for those in need, to give dignity to the downtrodden, and to provide hope for a better tomorrow. William was also a lover of the little things in life and nature - the stars and moon, thunder and lightning storms, jumping the waves in the ocean and long walks in the park. He was a lover of the arts and culture with a varied array of interests from music from the 1920s through his passion for rap and artists such as Lil B, Gucci Main and Ruben Slikk. An avid gamer whose love started back in the day of arcades at Lucky Leos in Seaside Heights to his online gaming with countless friends online. William believed that often times, people placed money, or status ahead of the things that really matter, leading to abandonment and neglect of relationships in the pursuit of self-gratification. William lived with an open heart and an open mind and accepted all people for who they were without judgment. He will be remembered and revered for his fierce loyalty, his candid mind, and his remarkable ability to charm anyone lucky enough to be spending time with him. His unrelenting courage while inspiring, never once overshadowed his humility and grace. When posed with the question what would you pack in a suitcase if you were going away on a long journey - William simply responded nothing - I would hold my previous experiences in my heart and leave that suitcase empty to fill with new experiences. William was a truly unique man whose love of life and sense of wit touched many lives. He is predeceased by his by his nanny, Kathleen "Cookie" Adams and his uncle, Michael Adams. Surviving are his loving mother, Michelle Adams; father, Andrew Belson; Benjamin Belson; his grandparents, Tom "Pop Pop" Adams, Steven and Jennifer Belson; and numerous aunts, uncles, great aunts, cousins, extended family and friends. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday June 30, 2016, at 10 a.m., at the St. Gabriel's Historic Church, 549 CR-520, Marlboro, NJ, followed by burial in the St. Gabriel's Church Cemetery, Marlboro, NJ. So sorry for your loss. William had many more years ahead. Take comfort in knowing that God's Son felt the pain and sorrow that death brings after the death of his friend Lazarus. He gave way to tears. John 11:35 We weep along with you.
