Baljit Shergill Obituary
May 8, 1949 - September 2, 2022
Baljit Singh Shergill was born in Jamsher Khera, Punjab, India to Late Sardar Swarn Singh and Sardarni Charn Kaur. He was the second of four sons. He married Avtar Kaur in 1968 at the age of 19. Alongside starting a family and having the responsibility of being a father, he graduated with his Bachelors in English from Lyallpur Khalsa College in Jalandhar in 1970. He then graduated with his double Masters in Political Science and English from Guru Nanak National University in 1972.
He was a professor at the Guru Nanak National College in Nakodar and also served as the sarpanch (mayor) of Jamsher and Khera for 12 years. He then migrated to the United States with his family on May 25,1986 and settled in Yuba City before moving to Woodland in 2002. Once in the US, a new life began. He worked in the farms, at Walmart and at the cannery to establish his family.
He loved word searches, long walks, collecting coins, watching and reading the news, basketball (Sacramento Kings) and most importantly, being surrounded by his family. He has left a huge impact on everyone's life and we pray that his soul rests in peace.
He is preceded by Sardar Swarn Singh (father); Sardarni Charn Kaur (mother); brothers Nirmal Singh, Gurshanjit Singh, Harchandan Singh; Gurvinder Kaur (daughter); Jaspal Kaur (granddaughter); Tejveer Singh (grandson).
Baljit Singh is survived by his wife Avtar Kaur; son Yadwinder Singh and daughter-in-law Prabhjot Kaur; son Kamaljit Singh and daughter-in-law Baljinder Kaur; daughter Taranjit Kaur and son-in-law Kulwinder Singh Holait. Along with his grandchildren Jasdeep & grandson-in-law Gurshan Grewal, Pritpal, Navneet and grandson-in-law Angad Dhanoa, Gagandeep, Harjit, Sukhjit, Harman and Aarondeep.
Service/Antim Sanskar: Saturday, September 10, 2022, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, North Sacramento Funeral Home, 725 El Camino Ave., Sacramento, CA 95815. Followed by Antim Ardaas: Gurudwara Sahib Sikh Temple, 2301 Evergreen Ave., West Sacramento, CA 95691.

May God bless his soul. Even though the time I got to spent with him doesn't account to much; he, through his radiance and smile, bestowed upon me his wisdom, hope, warmth and love. He was an epitome of strong will. May his soul Rest in Peace.
