Carolyn Stockton Obituary

Carolyn June "Morton" Stockton, or better known as: Mug, Muggy June, Muggy, Muggins, and Nana, 91, passed away in her home in Marysville, CA, on October 10, 2025. Carolyn was born to George and Opal Morton on March 19, 1934, in a country farmhouse in rural Custer County, Oklahoma.

The Great Depression and the Dust Bowl made life in Oklahoma harder than we can imagine. The Morton family made the difficult decision to move to California. They settled in the town of Marysville in 1936. Their first residence was a tent. George found work in the Yuba River gold fields, where he operated a huge dredger. The family then lived in the mining town of Hammonton.

Carolyn began her education in the one room Peoria Schoolhouse on Peoria Rd., in Browns Valley, CA. Multiple grades learned their lessons in the same room. Then, onto Marysville Union High School where she graduated in 1951.

Carolyn had a 35 plus years career with Bank of America, starting in 1952 where she held numerous positions, one being an Assistant Manager and she ended her career as a real estate specialist. As a youngster she worked in the peach orchards, where she picked peaches. While working at the bank she opened up Granny Mugs Ice Cream Parlor in Marysville. After her retirement, she finished her peach career as a weighmaster on the slab. She also worked as a bar tender at the Eagle's Nest restaurant and saloon. She opened the facility early in the morning, and served coffee and drinks to duck hunters and other early risers.

Carolyn is known for her persimmon cookies - she loved baking them and giving them away, along with her freezer jams and jellies. Don't forget her memory - she knew everyone and could remember family history like no one else.

Carolyn's life revolved around her three daughters. Patti, Terri and Sherri were at the center of every decision she made. Carolyn was a true Christian - she believed in and followed the teachings of Jesus. She loved her family and they were very important to her. She was a patriot who loved her country. She voted in every election, and the flag flew on her front porch every day. She loved her 49ers' and would wear their colors while watching the games.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, George and Opal Morton; her siblings Chuck Morton, Dorvan Morton, Gymalee (Morton) Craddock, Dorene (Morton) Baker; her grandsons, Tyler Joseph Navarro and Craig James Saber.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael L. Stockton, of 29 years; her daughters, Patricia Elderkin, Terri Ayers, Sherri (Ayers) Saber (Kevin); granddaughter, Nicole Saber; and great grandson, Ethan Saber. Numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Services will be held at Lipp and Sullivan, 629 D St., Marysville, CA, at 11 am on Saturday, November 22, 2025. Following the services will be her Celebration of LIfe at the Hallwood Community Nazarene Church located 2825 Hwy. 20, Marysville.

Oh so sorry to hear of Carolyns' passing. I have known her for oh what, 70 years when she worked with my mother Rosemary at the BofA in Yuba City. My sincere condolences to her family. Such sad news
