David Gomes Obituary

David Mitchell Gomes, 82, of Yuba City, CA, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024. He was born in Colusa, CA, on June 27, 1941, the son of Augustine Gomes and Ida (Machado) Gomes.

David graduated from Yuba City High School and acquired an AA from Yuba College. He was a long-time resident of Yuba City, CA, which is where he and the love of his life Barbara J. (Powell) Gomes raised their family.

David enlisted in the Army and upon his return, served several years for the California Highway Patrol where he won multiple trophies for marksmanship. He also worked for the Yuba City branch of the ABC before retiring from Local 3 Operating Engineers Union.

His love and knowledge in building and craftsmanship led to many woodworking projects that he built for family and friends, but quite possibly took the most joy in creating toys for his grandchildren.

David loved his family especially his grandkids. Although he was not one to show affection, he was always sure to get a hug from them whenever he could.

David was a gentle and honest man who instilled many core values in his children, integrity being at the top of the list.

David is survived by his sister Della Atkinson; daughter Tarra (Jason) Victorino, son Mitchell (Anne) Gomes; one grandson Spencer Gomes; three granddaughters, Claire Gomes, Sydnie and Lainey Victorino

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara J. and brothers; Ted, Al, Richard and Robert Gomes.

A celebration for David will be held on March 2, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the City Cafe at 667 Plumas Street in Yuba City, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donation be made to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org

Tara and Mitch sorry for your loss. I can't tell you how much I liked and respected your pop. Damn he was a good guy and one of fondest friend I made in little league. The world is a little worse without David. You two are on my mind. Love ya Tom Cline.
