Doris Manoly Obituary

Doris Louise (Selleck) Vargo "Bobbie" Manoly, of Yuba City, California, passed away on November 27, 2022, at her home with family at her bedside. She was born in Ithaca, New York, on May 4, 1934, to Daniel W. and Bertha E. Selleck.

She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter and friend. She was an inspiration to those who knew her. An encourager, full of life and more than anything she loved Jesus and sharing His love with everyone. Her faith shined to all those around her.

She worked as a horse trainer, waitress, grocery clerk, receptionist and lastly a librarian at Red Bud Library. The 3 jobs she loved the most and would often reminisce about were as a horse trainer, a grocery clerk and a librarian.

Doris had an adventurous spirit and loved to explore new places. She and her late husband, Art Manoly, traveled all over the United States, Canada, Newfoundland and parts of Europe. They loved learning new things and were often taking different classes.

She enjoyed working with and owning horses - breaking them in, riding, exercising, teaching others to ride and how to handle the horses. She also competed in rodeos. Barrel racing and riding her horse Candy brought her pure joy.

She loved going to her Ladies Bible Study Groups, rowing on the lake, playing cards and had a very competitive spirit when playing games.

Doris enjoyed looking out over the lake (in Oregon) drinking coffee or tea and visiting with others. She also spent a lot of time reading the Bible, her books and the daily newspaper.

Doris loved to watch the sunrise and sunset, take walks along the beach, and to gather various types of rocks and shells. Of course, she made sure you were carrying the backpack as she loaded it up with the rocks and shells.

She was a very creative person who loved to write stories and poetry, drawing and making jewelry. We cherish the memories of our mom writing letters to us and drawing pictures on them; she was quite the artist. We will miss receiving them.

She loved growing flowers in her garden and sharing them with others. Doris and Art would make flower vases out of Yoplait yogurt containers, paste scenic pictures on them and fill them with flowers. Then they would take them to the local nursing home and deliver the Yoplait made vases with flowers to the residents.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Manoly; parents, Daniel and Bertha Selleck; and her 3 sisters, Gladys Thompson, Marion Drosendahl, and Ruth Manoly.

Doris is survived by her children and their families: Linda Morrison, Donna Marie, Dale and Julie Vargo, Sally and Kevin Nomina, and Laurie and Michael Kerzic; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and multiple extended family members.

Her spirit will always be forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give a donation to The Gideons, PO Box 140800, Nashville, Tennessee 37214-0800 or Gideons.org/gift
