Georgene Smith Obituary

1931 to 2025
Georgene Smith, 94, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in her home in Yuba City, CA, surrounded by family and friends.

Georgene was born on September 13, 1931, in Hamlin, TX. Her family moved to California when she was four years old. They first settled in Farmersville then moved to Live Oak, CA, when she was in second grade.

Georgene attended Live Oak High School. In her senior year, she met the man she would eventually enjoy 69 years of marriage with.

She met George at the Yuba City Church of the Nazarene and knew right away he was the one. They were married a year later in 1950.

Her faith in God was the most important part of Georgene's life. She and George were both members of the Nazarene Church well before they met and continued to attend the Nazarene Church their whole lives.

They met lifelong friends through the church and loved hosting Bible studies and small groups in their home.

Georgene worked at the Yuba Sutter Credit Bureau for 20 years followed by 15 years in the office at the Yuba City Church of the Nazarene.

She built strong bonds with her church colleagues and considered it a ministry rather than a job.

George and Georgene raised three children together. They spent many summers camping, a tradition continued by the Smith children to this day.

Georgene loved her family with everything she had and was someone they could always count on to be there for them. She truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Traveling was a big part of Georgene's life. She and George visited all 50 states and numerous countries around the world. Two vacations they spoke about often were their cruise to Alaska and trip to the Holy Land.

Georgene was preceded in death by her husband, George Smith; parents George and Mary Garrett; and brothers, Gerald and Garon Garrett.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Hodges (Michael); daughter, Jan Walters (Jim); and sons, Larry Smith (Tammy) and Richard Smith (Christa); ten grandchildren, Jami, Jimmy, Jennifer, Jessica, Jenna, Megan, Jason, Scott, Brantley and Garon; as well as seven great-grandchildren.

Georgene will truly be missed by everyone that had the opportunity to know her.

She will be remembered for her kind and caring attitude as well as her quick wit.

A celebration of Georgene's life will be held at Hope Point Nazarene Church located at 600 N. George Washington Blvd, in Yuba City, CA, on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11 AM. A reception will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Point Nazarene Church.
