Harold Noall Obituary

Harold K. (Hal) Noall passed away September 17, 2013, at Rideout Memorial Hospital, Marysville, CA. He was born September 12, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Harold F. and Nelle K. Noall.

He attended schools in Utah, Idaho, and California, and graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1951. While there he served one year in the U.S. Navy reserves, then enrolled in the Army ROTC program and received his officer's commission at graduation. He was on active reserve while attending dental school in San Francisco at University of Pacific Dental School (formerly College of Physicians and Surgeons.) After graduation in 1955 he served on active duty at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

After satisfying his military obligation, he returned to California and practiced dentistry, first in Stockton, and then Berkeley before settling in Yuba City from 1960 until his retirement from general dentistry in 1990. He continued part time participation in practices outside the area, not fully retiring until he was 80 years old.

His was an active retirement - he claimed that he didn't know how he'd ever had time to work. He had a group of golf buddies from the gym where he worked out daily; and when they could no longer golf, they continued to meet weekly at McDonald's. He considered all his patients to be personal friends and joked that his social life revolved around chatting with any or all of them that he met on his daily shopping expeditions.

He was a member of Butte-Sierra Dental Society, the California Dental Assn., and the American Dental Assn. He served in numerous leadership positions locally and on the state level. He served on the Superior California Comprehensive Health Agency, and was also a consultant to the California Dental Service. He also belonged to the Alumni Associations of U.C. Berkeley and the University of Pacific Dental School.

In 1951 he married his college sweetheart and they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Joy; sons, Kenneth, Keith, and Christopher of Yuba City; and daughter, Lorraine of Utah; and their spouses. He was preceded in death by another daughter, Susan, who died in infancy. Other survivors include 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and two brothers-- Brooke and Scott.

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and an active priesthood holder. Services will be held at the L.D.S. Stake Center, 1470 Butte House Rd., Yuba City, on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Sacramento Valley Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Dixon.

We are sorry to miss the funeral. Hal was such a good man, loved and admired by his family and others. If the mark of a man is in the quality of his children, then Joy and Hal should be ever pleased with their work.

Joy, Lorri and the rest of the Noall family - I can't even begin to tell you how sorry I am to hear about Dr. Noall passing away. You both know how much he meant to me - he was the most caring, sweet and kind man I had ever met. I am so grateful to have had him as my "first boss" so many years ago and I LOVED seeing him in "Raleys" so we could catch up on all that was going on with each other. He was always so gracious in asking about how my life was going and always asking about my "Navy Pilot" little brother. He had a kind word for everyone he ever met. And he was SO proud of his family and was always filling me in on the great things the kids and grandkids were doing. Lori - your dad gave me a great start in life when I was just getting started and he also introduced me to you - one of my long-time forever friends. I am so grateful that we were able to visit with your dad just a few weeks ago. I will miss him dearly. My love and thoughts go out to your entire family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Noall just two weeks ago at the Family Barber in Yuba City while my husband was getting a haircut. It was just a coincidence that we both worked in dentistry. I could tell in that moment that he was a wonderful person. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Hal was like a big brother, just 7 years older than me. During his teen years he lived with us for a time and was an important part of our family. He was always kind and often included me in his hobby activities. Although our respective jobs kept us on opposite sides of the country, my wife and I enjoyed the occasional visits that he and Joy made to our area and it was always a pleasure to hear from him. Joy, we extend to you and to the other members of your extended family our love and prayers. We know that in this period of loss your deep faith will sustain you.

Our heart, prayers and deep thoughts go out to Joy and the Noall family at this time.

It saddens me greatly to just find out my sweet dear friend, my neighbor has passed away. I have been out town since last Tuesday and it is a total shock to come home tonight to this news.

Hal was a kind and thoughtful person who I so enjoyed to visit with through the day as we each worked on our yards. He so adored his sweet wife and always talked so proudly of each of his grown kids and the grandchildren through the many talks we enjoyed each day.

He was strong in his faith and I admired him for that and how he always talked so fondly of his dentistry profession and his many loving patients. I always enjoyed to discuss daily events and the ongoing politics with him that neither of us knew we could fix.
Hal you will be missed deeply by ME, Patty, Tracy. Tyson and Sullivan & Lilly.
Our Love goes out to the entire Noall family.
