Jess Robert Cantrell, Jr.

Private Services will be held for Jess Robert Cantrell, Jr., 86 of Gridley, California. He passed away Monday, September 15, 2008 at his residence of natural causes.
Jess was born April 10, 1922 in California. He was a long time Butte County resident. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and love of sports. During Jess's life he served in the armed forces during WWII in the Pacific. He was a rice and cattle rancher in Marysville for 33 years. Jess was a pilot, hunter, and avid enthusiast of sports of all types, particularly baseball and football. He retired in Gridley at the family's Cantrell Arabians Ranch where he lived out the rest of his life. Jess loved his family and spent most of his time enjoying the easy pace of the ranch life and caring for the grounds and animals. There was nothing Jess enjoyed more that sharing a good laugh with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom and a sister, Marge.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jewell Harkey Cantrell of Gridley, CA; 2 sons: Greg Cantrell & wife Debbie of Loma Rica and Kim Cantrell & wife Yvonne of W. Sacramento, CA; and a daughter, Renee Kajla & husband Paul of Yuba City, CA. He is also survived by a sister Mary Cantrell of San Francisco; grandchildren Nicole Goodrich & husband Charlie, Natasha Vasilopoulos & husband William and Courtney Cantrell; also great-grandchildren Alexa & Nicholas Vasilopoulos.
Arrangements were entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
