Joan Adams Obituary

Joan "Joni" Lynn Adams, age 80, passed from this earth on September 27, 2022.

Joni was born on September 11, 1942, in Elgin, IL, to Alfons (Duke) and Irene Adams.

She attended McHenry, IL, schools and received a BA degree in Humanities from Loyola University, Chicago, IL, and a MA degree in Library Science from Rosary College in River Forest, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and lifelong friend Geri Restivo.

She is survived by her sister Joyce (Howard) James; nephews: Daniel (Melissa) James, Joseph (Jessalyn Jarest) James and Benjamin (Bethany) James; plus grandnieces, Lily, Hazel and Iris; and grandnephew Nathan James.

Joni had previously been employed by the Bezazian Branch Library, Chicago, as the Adult services and reference librarian and the North LakeView Library, Chicago, as the branch librarian and was a museum aide at the Community Memorial Museum of Sutter County, Yuba City, CA.

Joni had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed the Mutts comic strip, loved hearing and telling jokes. In spite of her poor vision, she loved singing and playing piano throughout her life, her favorite songs being from the 1920's, 30's and 40's.

She enjoyed theatre and opera, intelligent conversation, listening to recorded books, her book club, politics, especially women's rights and equality for all. She could answer most Jeopardy questions correctly. She loved her family, cats, Betty Boop, frosting more than cake, cheese pizza, beer and Manhattans with 5 cherries! Joni had been a member of AAUW, California Camel Clompers, No Kidding Lunch Bunch, and two Red Hat Groups. She was well traveled, enjoying trips to Ireland, Mexico, Europe and Hawaii.

Memorial contributions may be made to PAWS (Performing Animal Welfare Society) www.pawsweb.org or Alley Cat Allies www.alleycat.org

Cremation has taken place per her request with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.

Her family would like to thank the Sutter Care at Home Team, Gridley Post Acute Care and the Ullrey Funeral Home, Yuba City, who made arrangements. Special thanks to all the "angels" in her life. She was blessed to have you as friends. We will all miss her very much.

So very sorry to hear of Joni's passing. We spent many times together till I returned to live back in the UK in 2003. We corresponded but after her last letter to me never got a response and as she was not on social media did not find out till this morning that she had passed. A truly lovely person and I'm very sorry for your loss

Joni's knowlege, and wit always made it a pleasure to be around her or when in conversation on the phone. Her mannerism and campaign hat set her apart from others. Her presence will be missed.
