Malcolm Morgan Obituary

August 28, 1944 - February 17, 2021

Our hearts are heavy following the death of Malcolm Lee Morgan, on February 17, 2021, at the age of 76. His goofy sense of humor, straightforward way, and generous nature, particularly with his time, will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Malcolm adored his family, his work, and the game of golf. Malcolm also loved a good party, a tall vodka-soda with lime (and lots of ice), jigsaw puzzles, a good joke, family vacations, and grilling outdoors. He was happiest while working or golfing, and if he had his family along for a round, he wanted to be nowhere else.

We are so grateful he enjoyed both activities in the weeks before his sudden passing, and we know he is having the round of his life, shooting his age after having pulled together his dream foursome with Wayne, Frank, and Dale.

Over the past 20 years, Malcolm battled back five separate cancers, but the sixth and seventh, in his lungs and liver, proved too much. After an unexpected but brief hospitalization, he passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

Malcolm was born in Marysville, CA, and grew up in nearby Linda, on a farm owned by his grandparents, Malcolm and Linna Goostree. It was on this farm that Malcolm's strong work ethic was born, a result of milking cows daily and planting corn and beans to the exacting standards of his granddad.

At a teen dance in Yuba City, Malcolm met his forever sweetheart, Kathleen (Monahan), so impressing her with his dance moves that they married the following year, in 1965. Malcolm was drafted in 1966, and served two years in the Army, spending one of those in Vietnam, where he was twice wounded in combat, earning several commendations, including two Purple Heart medals.

In 1968, Malcolm returned to Sacramento to attend CSU, Sacramento, on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a degree in Accounting. With this degree, Malcolm began a long and successful career in accounting, much of it spent as his own boss.

Later in his career, Malcolm expanded his passion for accounting to include a forensic practice, passing the exam and licensing requirements necessary to become a Certified Fraud Examiner. He found his work so rewarding and fulfilling that he continued working past his promised retirement age of 75.

Malcolm is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Kathleen, daughters; Liz Morgan of San Jose, and Jill Hernandez (Ray) of Napa; grandchildren, Alex and Morgan; brother, Jerry Morgan (Karen) of Yuba City; in-laws, Mike and Marsha Stevens, and Ann Howard; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins; and many lifelong friends who knew and loved Malcolm. He is preceded in death by his mother, Christine Morgan; and his brothers, Raymond and Richard.

He will be interred at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, at a private service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the American Cancer Society or First Tee of Greater Sacramento, a non-profit dedicated to helping children by providing educational programs through the game of golf.

A celebration of his life, where all who loved him can come have a "honk" in his honor, will occur at a later date when social gatherings can be safely held again.
