Margaret Anne Reid

1983 - 2021

Margaret Anne Reid was born September 15, 1983, in Yuba City, California, to Keith and Margaret Harshbarger. She attended schools in Grass Valley and Gridley. She is a 2002 graduate of Gridley High School.

Annie attended Dominican University of California in San Rafael earning a masters degree in occupational therapy. She worked as an OT in Marin County. In 2010, she met Justin Reid and they married. Together they built a life in Corte Madera California.

Annie was vacationing with her parents and son Kai in Maine when she was killed by a motorist while on a morning walk December 7, 2021.

In the words of her husband "Annie (as she loves to be called) lived a life that embodied a gentleness of spirit." She had an indomitable will to always do the right thing and a wise and joyful insight into everyone's beautiful uniqueness.

Annie gave more than she got. She displayed more gratitude than resentment. She valued collaboration over competition and powerful humility more than vanity. Her nonchalant grace evoked the best in everyone she met.

As an occupational therapist for the elderly, Annie's core personality was able to shine. Her skillful attentiveness to the challenges of age brought a sense of peace and healing to everyone she worked with.

Her integrity was displayed when her husband's niece and nephew needed a home. With unwavering resolve she told everyone that she wouldn't stand for anything less than raising them as her own. She was fierce towards injustice and compassionate towards people's truth no matter who they were. In fact the more a person revealed of themselves the more respect she gave them.

As Leonard Cohen once said, "She knew the crack in everything and brought the light in."

Annie is survived by her husband, Justin Reid; her son, Kai; and her niece and nephew, Sophia and Aiden Reid. She is also survived by her sister, Katie Macdonald (Ken); her nephew, Conner Macdonald; her parents, Keith and Peggy Harshbarger; and her grandmother, Maureen Dekens.

A mass will be held Monday, December 27, 2021, at 10 AM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gridley, with a reception to follow at the Gridley Moose Lodge.
