Matthew Stothers Obituary

It's hard to believe two months have gone by since you were taken from us in a fatal car accident on April 12, 2020. Matthew Douglas Stothers, age 32, was born at UC Davis Hospital on February 26, 1988, to Tina and Jay Stothers.

He was a beloved brother to Tabatha (John Lopez), Erica (Steven Patterson), Cody (Megan) Stothers, Brooke Stothers, and J'Lynne Stothers. Matthew was the most proud uncle to 8 nephews and 4 nieces (2 of which joined him in heaven that day). He was an adored grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend.

As a child, Matthew attended Virginia School in Wheatland where he earned the opportunity to graduate from Wheatland High School in 2006. He then went on to Yuba College for three years and explored the work force through the Farm to Fork program.

Anyone that knew Matthew would know he was imaginative, creative, smart, and funny. Everywhere he went, he made a new friend and touched a heart. There was never a dull moment when Matthew was around as he loved to play his guitar, sing, and most of all fish (or scare them away).

The family wants to thank everyone for their love and continued support during this difficult time. Due to COVID, the family had a private viewing and will be holding a large Celebration of Life once gatherings are permitted. Information on that will be given via facebook, texts, or word of mouth.

I just this today. I knew Matthew when he was in Dianes class at Yuba College and I was the principal of the program. Matt was always happy and smiling and loved telling me his fishing stories. It was a joy to see him at school because he was a bright light. My condolences for your loss. May you always have wonderful memories.

It was my privilege to be Matt's teacher at Yuba College for 3 years. He was such a sweetheart! I enjoyed talking football and his beloved Steelers with him. Such a tragic loss for the whole Stothers family. My heart goes out to you all.

Matthew is truly a beautiful soul. Anyone who knew him couldn't help but love him. Always so happy and making jokes. Always asking if we'd gone fishing and what we caught. Can't even fathom that you're really gone. You will be sorely missed my friend. Save some fish up there in heaven for the rest of us

Oh Matt, my silly and handsome cousin, why did you have to go? I will treasure the memories that I have forever. One of my best memories with you is when I would go visit and you would say "Krissy say it" and I would already know what you were talking about because it was our thing that made us giggle since we were kids ... "J-E-L-L-O" ... I remember he called me out of the blue one day and said "Krissy, J-E-L-L-O" and laughed and then hung up on me lol The story behind that is as kids we saw a commerical came on for jello and it stuck, and became our thing gosh I'm going to miss that and your giggles everyday I will love and miss you forever Matt I know God has you in heaven but I will always have you in my heart
