Robert Coats Sr. Obituary

Robert T. Coats Sr., 87, of Live Oak died Oct. 27, 2007, at Rideout Memorial Hospital.

Born in Marysville, he was a lifelong Yuba-Sutter resident.

He worked as an attorney and a rancher.

He was a member of the Yuba-Sutter Bar Association; Sunsweet Growers; and was growers president of the California Canning Association.

In addition, he was a member of the Peach Tree Golf and Country Club, Twin Cities Riding Club, Reserve Officers Corps, St. Isidore Catholic Church and Phi Delta Theta at the University of California, Berkeley; and the first president of Sutter Buttes Little League and a past president of the Yuba-Sutter Ski Club.

He served in the U.S. Army as a major with the Engineer Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Coats of Live Oak; three sons, Francis E. Coats of Yuba City, Robert T. Coats Jr. of Evanston, Ill., and Thomas P. Coats of Herrenberg, Germany; two daughters, Betty Heian of Benicia and Robin Walther of Pasadena; three stepdaughters, Barbara Ward of Lafayette, Laura Jane Coats of Larkspur and Mary Kashuba of Colfax; a stepson, Jim Coats of Knights Landing; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jane Poole Coats; and a grandson.

Donations may be made to the Community Memorial Museum of Sutter County, 1333 Butte House Road, Yuba City, CA 95993; or St. Isidore Catholic Church, 222 Clark Ave., Yuba City, CA 95991.

Services: A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, preceded by visitation beginning at 4 p.m., at Ullrey Memorial Chapel in Yuba City. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 222 Clark Ave., Yuba City. Burial will be at Sutter Cemetery.
