Suzanne Carter-Herboldshimer Obituary

Suzanne Carter-Herboldshimer fought cancer for over 8 years. She was originally told she would have about a year to live, but with the care of family and medical staff, she lived to add three more grandchildren to the two she already had. Suzanne succumbed to cancer Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

Suzanne was surrounded by love from her biological family, her work family, her healthcare family, and her 4-H Guide Dog Puppy Raiser Family, throughout her battle.

She was born in Yuba City, CA, October 11, 1947, to Dick and Lillian Carter, and lived in Live Oak, CA, most of her life. She left for a short time after graduating from Chico State, to teach physical education, and coach volleyball in Santa Maria, CA.

It was in Santa Maria, CA, that she met and married, Jeff Herboldshimer. They moved back to Live Oak, CA, in 1978, to be with family and start a family of their own. They have two sons, Dustin and Derek, and five grandchildren.

Suzanne worked at Yuba College after returning to the area for a while then went to work at Live Oak High School, as the attendance secretary. She moved on to become the Business Manager of Manzanita Elementary School for 17 years. She enjoyed being part of this exceptional school and did her part to make it that way. Cancer forced her into retirement in 2016.

The Yuba Sutter 4-H Guide Dog Puppy Raisers was a passion for Suzanne. She became the community project leader, and was proud of the family of raisers that together, raised over 100 puppies for Guide Dogs of San Rafael, CA. Raising the puppies was perhaps second only to making lifelong friendships with a very special group of people.

There will be a graveside service at the Live Oak Cemetery Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 10:30 AM. The public is welcome.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you contribute to a new sponsorship created in her honor: The Suzanne Memorial Guide Dog Puppy Raiser Sponsorship, will continue to support puppy raisers and their commitment to service and community. You can donate at the celebration.

I met Suzanne at Yuba College working for Mr. Jim Hay. It was always fun to be in her company. I had lost contact with her when I moved out of state. My prayers of comfort go to Jeff, the boys and her grandchildren.
