ALMA DOUGLAS Obituary

ALMA JEAN DOUGLAS Her sunrise began 94 years ago on April 16, 1931. A beautiful baby girl was born to Haston and Eliza (Wright) Franklin in Milo, Okla. Alma Jean Franklin was the name given to her by her parents. Alma departed this life on October 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family when her soul took flight on Heaven-bound wings and she began her journey home to be with the Lord. Alma was a long-time resident of the Milo and Woodford communities. She attended Roosevelt School and Central High School where she graduated. While living in the Milo/Woodford communities she met, fell in love, and married Miles Douglas, on April 23, 1960, in Marietta, Okla. Alma loved gardening, sewing, quilting and cooking. She was a devoted and loyal wife. Alma was baptized at an early age and joined the Jehovah Baptist Church where she was a devoted life-long member. She was one of the longest and oldest members of the Church where she served faithfully for over 84 plus years until her health began to fail her. She served in several capacities of the church as Deaconess, choir member, the benevolent committee and she was also responsible for the Christmas box ministries during the holidays. Alma had her own sense of humor and wordage that her children understood, and she could be very comical at times. She was a constant, supportive and loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind to cherish her legacy: Daughters, Vicki Douglas Whitaker, Ardmore; Marsha Douglas Robinson (James), Okmulgee, Okla.; Norma Douglas Barnes (David), Oklahoma City. Sons: Marshall Douglas (June), Davis; Roderick (Tammy) Douglas, Ardmore; Craig Douglas, Ardmore; Chris Douglas, Oklahoma City; and Dominique Douglas of the home; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; Sisters: Norvell Green and Nadine Pickens (Glennon), both of Ardmore. Sister-in-laws: Cecilia Lax of Kansas City, MO, and Benester Douglas of Ardmore. Brother-in-law: Roscoe Evans of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a special friend and cousin Veola Scott. Alma is preceded in death by her parents, Haston and Eliza Franklin; and her husband of 55 years, Miles Douglas; (5) brothers: Wilber, Clem, Millard, Martin and Otis; (5) sisters: Virgie Lyda, Epimetheus Robertson, Theressa Howard, Johnnie Howard, and Rose Evans.

Many years ago, while I was living in Carter County, I would turkey hunt on the property that Miles and Alma owned. Every year I would kill a turkey and split the meat with these two wonderful people. After hunting I would sit on the porch and listen to Miles spin his tails. Alma would cook breakfast for me before I headed home. Alma and Miles were the salt of the earth in my eyes. Travel well Alma. You and Miles gave me memories to last a lifetime.
