Clifford Edward Larson

Clifford Edward Larson, age 92, passed away on December 20, 2014, at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral Mass will be held in the Cathedral of St. Joseph at 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014.

A memorial service will be held at the Dow Rummel Chapel at 7 p.m. Sunday, December 28 with visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Clifford Larson was born July 7, 1922, to Mary (Sandberg) and Edward Larson at their farm home north of Salem, SD. He married Marilyn (Eickman) Larson on June 6, 1944, and farmed near Salem. In 1947 they moved to Sioux Falls where Clifford was employed at the Sioux Falls Water Department for 15 years and the United States Postal Service for 25 years. After retirement in 1986, Cliff and Marilyn enjoyed many years of traveling and wintered in Arizona until 2003. Cliff was an active member of Cathedral Parish, St. Michaels Parish, and the Knights of Columbus. He touched many people's lives with his numerous volunteer involvement, including many years as a Boy Scout leader.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 70 years, Marilyn, his children, Terrence (Peggy) Larson, Madison WI, MaryBeth (Bill) Axlund, Aberdeen, SD, and Laurie (Tyler) Riss, Sioux Falls, 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and his brother Howard Larson of Bellevue, WA.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Jean Hunt and Carolyn Larson, and three sisters, Dorothy Sandberg, Lucille Giss and Edna Koepp.

Memorials may be sent to St. Vincent DePaul or SERRA Club of SF.

Marilyn and family,
I'm keeping you in my prayers. I have fond memories of Cliff and Marilyn from my time working at the Parish of St. Michael. I remember how involved they were with St Vincent de Paul and many good causes.

Terry & family,

I am sorry for your loss. Cliff was an incredibly kind man and a hero to all the boys in his Scout troops. From Cub Scouts, to Webelos, to Boy Scouts --- he encouraged and guided so many of us. Great early memories for so many North-end Catholic boys. He will be remembered. I'm having trouble remembering if it was Troop 45 or Troop 118 --- I'm leaning to 118. Right?

Unfortunately I am out of town for the holidays and will not return to Sioux Falls in time to attend the funeral, but please know that I there in spirit, sitting proudly with our classmates of OGHS Class of 1965 --- and especially with the "twelve year kids" who grew up in the shadow of the Spires.

Marilyn and family: Michele and I have very fond memories of Clifford. From the time I first came to Sioux Falls to meet Michele's family and then got to know you and your husband we were always treated with great kindness and warmth. His life is one to be celebrated and he lived it fully and with great dignity. He will be missed - our prayers and thoughts are with you.
