Darlene (Higgins) Hansen

Darlene Hansen age 90 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, August 28, 2017 at her home in Sibley, IA. Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 3rd at the United Methodist Church in Sibley, with Reverend Steve Swenson officiating. Family will receive family and friends from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the United Methodist Church of Sibley. Darlene (Higgins) Hansen was born on November 20, 1926 in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of Albert and Etta (Ward) Higgins. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School, where she met her future husband Ken. Darlene and Ken were married on March 9, 1946 in Indianapolis, IN. The couple lived in Sibley most of their married life. Darlene was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sibley and Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing golf at the Sibley Golf Club and liked to playing bridge and was a member of a bridge card club for fifty years. Darlene especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a great listener and a loving friend. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of seventy-one years, Ken Hansen of Sibley, IA; three children: Susan (Leonard) Boneschans of Sheldon, IA, Dave (Linda) Hansen of New Ulm, MN and Jeff (Arla) Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren: Stephanie Hansen, Stacy (Kurt) Schroeder, Wendy (Peter) Guggisberg, Abbie (Jeff) Cornelius, Kim (Nathan) Hoekstra and Whitney Hansen, and eight great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Etta Higgins; three brothers; and one sister.
