Evelyn Pletan Obituary
Evelyn "Evie" D. Pletan, 72, of Canistota, formerly of Sioux Falls, passed away from natural causes on Monday March 2, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 7 at the United Church of Canistota. Visitation will begin at 12 pm on Friday with family present at 5 pm and a time of sharing at 7 pm, all at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.
Evelyn Dunn was born on November 30, 1942 to Elbert "Jack" and Elsie (Davis) Dunn in Esmond, SD. She graduated from Canistota High School in 1960 and went on to receive her beautician's license from Stewarts. She married Gayle Pletan on March 10, 1962. They moved to Sioux City for a bit and returned to Canistota in 1967, where Evie ran her own beauty shop. She retired in 1992 and the couple moved to Mobridge, Pierre and eventually Sioux Falls. Gayle passed away in 2001. Evie remained in Sioux Falls until just recently moving back to Canistota.
Evie was a member of the United Church of Canistota. She spent many years in the United Church Choir and serving in Christian Education. Evie enjoyed shopping, making jewelry, and baking cookies. She loved the Twins and Vikings and was an avid follower and supporter of her kid's sporting events.
Evie is survived by: one son, Jody (Jennifer) Pletan of Watertown, SD; two daughters, Shonda (Frankie) Vaughn of Sioux Falls and Tanda (Bruce) Nugteren of Parker; 12 grandchildren, Tara, Brock, Trent, Brynn, Taylor, Chase, Jhett, Cruiz, Journey, Bryant, Mackenzie and Ashlyn; three great-grandchildren, Adriana, Jayden and Kori; one brother, Clarence "Stub" (Jan) Dunn of Hartford; one sister, Bonnie Hay of Canistota; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three sisters, Darlene Donelan, Delores "Dortie" Fischer, and Donna McCorkell. www.kinzleyfh.com

I had my fiuirst job in the Beauty Salon that was in the Ortman Hotel. Worked with her for a year. What a great lady. She will be missed. You kids were really small and don't expect you to remember. Sorry for your loss.
