Kenneth Heeren

Kenneth Heeren, 72, of Sioux Falls, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday evening, July 11, 2013 at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls due mesothelioma. He was born in 1941 and grew up near Chancellor graduating from Chancellor High in 1959. In 1960 he married Harriet Meyer, The couple lived in Tea, Humboldt and Sioux Falls. He worked for Xcel Energy for 34 years retiring in 1995. He attended Central Baptist Church and had also served on church boards at First Reformed Church. He served on NAMI-SD Board, SD Board of Trustees and the Governor's Advisory Council on Mental Health. Survivors: wife, Harriet, Sioux Falls; children: Troy (Dawn) Heeren, Brooklyn Park, MN and Tricia (Wayne) Fish, Watertown; one granddaughter, Rachel Heeren, Inver Grove Heights, MN; siblings: Dona Johnson and Duane (Verla) Heeren both of Sioux Falls, brother-in-law, Russel Peters, Sioux Falls and sisters-in-law: Frances (Clarence) Smit, Lennox and Marlene (Donald) Sinning, Sioux Falls. Graveside services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17 at Woodlawn Cemetery with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday July 17 at Central Baptist Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests memorial gifts to Children's Care Hospital & School or the National Alliance of Mental Illness. I'm sorry to hear of Ken's dealth. He was a great youth leader to me and whenever I saw him over the years always had time to talk & ask how my family was. Very caring person and will be greatly missed.

Sorry to hear about Ken, many years ago, he saved me on a cold winters afternoon when my car stalled on interstate. He picked me up and gave me ride home. Will always remember the kindness.
