Terri, Rick was such a good friend and pastoral co-worker. His witness to Christ and his leadership in the Iowa Conference will not be forgotten. We fought many battles together and he never let me down.

Rick was a wonderful presence within our United Methodist Church in Iowa. As a colleague I was grateful that his witness was filled with God's grace and truth. Regardless of the swirling trends around us, Rick stood firm on the word of Christ. He was such a good man, though I only knew him from pastoral connections, I can only assume he was a great husband, dad and friend. Definitely a bright light in our world. God bless you all.

Terry and Family,
My family has many good memories of your family while pastoring SUMC. Our church and my family were blessed to have the teaching, leadership, fellowship and love you and your family gave to all of us. May you find comfort and strength in knowing we care. Peace be with you.

Terri, Susie and family: Rick was a difference-maker to so many. We have wonderful memories of his boldness, his humor, his love for the lost, and his love for the Hawkeyes! Never saw a pastor circulate so many clipboards!

You have my deepest love and sympathy in the loss of your beloved husband and father. Rick's bright light will shine always and he will be remembered for spreading the good news of our Savior to all. I remember knowing him first as my high school Sunday School teacher. I will cherish always the day some 15 years ago or so when he and I walked around Union Grove Lake near Mom Jane's home in Garwin, Iowa, and he asked me what God was doing in my life as well as many other things. He wanted to be sure I had proclaimed Jesus as my personal Savior, something that I'd learned from him when I was a teenager. It was hard keeping up with his pace, but it was such a pleasant time with him as we'd had do few of those through the years. Today, however saddened by his departing, I'm so thankful for his gift of loving counseling and being part of our family.

Sending love and sincere sympathy from Connie and Emery. Rick was an amazing man of faith who gave so much to his family and parishioners over the years. In particular his strength over the last few years was an inspiration to all. He will be greatly missed but we will always remember his spirit.
