Shirley Bartling

Sioux Falls - Shirley L. Bartling, 81 passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD.

Shirley, daughter of Edward and Florence (Nafziger) Jordan, was born May 17, 1936 in Pipestone, MN. She was united in marriage with Dennis Bartling on July 24, 1955 in Pipestone, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD. Shirley cherished spending time with family and friends. She and Dennis loved to travel and go camping and fishing. There was hardly ever a time when she wasn't up for a game of cards. Shirley worked for many years at UPS, retiring in 1999.

Grateful for sharing her life are her four children: Steven (Crystal) Bartling, Michael (Joan) Bartling, Debra (Reed) Wheeler and Joseph (Cindy) Bartling, all of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Sherry (Kurt) Bohnet, Winner, SD; Steven Bartling, Jr., Los Angeles, CA; Jared (Haley) Bartling, Indianapolis, IN; Nicole Bartling (McCord Stowater), Madison, SD; Natalie Bartling, Desiree Teslow (Josh Lias), Megan Teslow (Thomas Mayo) , Matthew (Kayla) Wheeler, Daniel (Amanda) Wheeler, Alexander Andersen (Emily Flanders) and Brandon Bartling, all of Sioux Falls, SD; great grandchildren, Brooke, Sidney and Zachary Bohnet, Dylan, Jordynn, Jeremiah, Kacey and Trenton Lias, Kaiden Viet, Talia Mayo, Emersyn Park, Piper Wheeler, Kira and Zoey Wheeler; her brother, James Jordan, Frederick, CO; two sisters-in-law: Darlene Hagemeyer, Tea, SD and Evelyn (Lee) Friese, Sioux Falls, SD and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Dennis, on January 13, 2011; sister-in-law, Lela Jordan; brother-in-law, Henry Hagemeyer and niece, Michele Curry.

Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January9, 2018 at Augustana Lutheran Church, 235 N. Prairie Ave. in Sioux Falls with interment at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation with the family present will be on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home. www.heritagesfsd.com.

Shirley was more like a sister to me than a cousin. We grew up spending a lot of time together on the farm, and I know she loved me because she would grumble when she had to shoo the hens off their nest so I could gather eggs, but she went with me every time. She was patience personified and taught me to drive a car at 13!! You couldn't help but laugh when she did; her laugh was infectious. She loved all of you, her family, and I know you will miss her terribly. So will I. My deepest sympathy to each of you.

Shirley was my mom (Pat Block's) cousin, niece to my Grandma, Scude Mahoney. Every time I went to visit my Grandma in Pipestone, I would get to see Shirley, and I always looked forward to seeing her. She was kind, her smile was so warm, her laugh unrivaled, and she always made you feel so loved. I send my sincerest sympathy to her family. I hope the wonderful memories you all shared help comfort you in this difficult time.

Shirley's family were our neighbors in the country. My dad and her dad farmed together and our families shared many times together. Also enjoyed the extended family when Shirley & brother Jim got married and brought their children to the farm.
Your family will have many happy memories to share about Shirley.
