Timothy Griffith Obituary

Timothy "Griff" Griffith

Timothy "Griff" Griffith, 64, of Sioux Falls, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Tim was born January 20, 1950 at Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1968. Upon high school graduation, he entered military service and served his country in the US Marines. He received his honorable discharge from the Marines in 1970.

On January 16, 1971, he was united in marriage with Jane Deets in Sioux Falls. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls where Griff began his career in food service as a chef for the Ramkota Hotel. He later became the food and beverage director for the Howard Johnson Hotel. He retired from that position in 1999 after 25 years of service.

Griff was active in the community as a member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church; the Masons, Scottish Rite and The El Riad Shrine. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. His other memberships include Ducks Unlimited, The Wild Turkey Federation, Walleyes Unlimited and the Elk Foundation. As a veteran, he was a member of the Sioux Falls American Legion and the Marine Corp League. Griff was an expert shot and had won many awards in sporting clays and trap shooting, including having won a state championship.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Jane, of Sioux Falls; his siblings, Dianne Griffith of Nashville, TN along with her children, Teresa and Kyle; Dan (Cathy) Griffith of Sioux Falls along with their children, Laura and Phil; Jennifer (Jim) Long of Hettinger, ND along with their children, Bill, Emily and Elizabeth; and Debra (Kamil) Shakra of Plano, TX, along with their children, Melissa and Jaime; his sisters-in-law, Cathie (Rick) Heck with their son Ryan and Deborah Deets (John Danio) with their daughter, Tierney.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Cory in 1992; and his brothers, Michael and Kevin.

Funeral services will begin 10:00 am Thursday at Southern Hills United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue.
