Mr. Wiley Mac Lewis, better known as W.M. or Dub, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on Thursday, March 21 at his home. He was 80 years old.
Mr. Lewis was born on July 21, 1943 in Ashe County, NC to the late Wiley Millard and Hazel Roark Lewis. In addition to his parents, Dub was preceded in death by his wife Donna Blackburn Lewis, and three brothers, Joseph Walter Lewis, and infants James Fredrick Lewis, and Russell Bruce Lewis.
Dub Lewis worked for over 40 years in the sawmill business with his brother Joe at Lewis Lumber. He then acquired his contractor's license in construction and began building cabins and houses. In January of 2020, he had to have his leg amputated below the knee due to finding out he had cancer in the soft tissue of his ankle. He battled this disease 4 years longer than was predicted by his doctors. During those years, Dub endured an incredible number of doctor visits, procedures, treatments, and pain with grace and integrity. He had a strong faith and will to live as long as he could for his family. He fought a good fight and kept the faith until the end.
Outside of work, Dub found joy in spending time with his family, friends and church family. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar with various groups and family members at church. He was a dedicated deacon and church clerk at Three Top Baptist Church and never missed as long as he was able.
Dub leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and Christian example to all those who loved him or had the pleasure of being his friend.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his daughter, Brenda Lewis Davis, one son, Timothy Scott Lewis (Hope), four grandchildren, Kaleb Scott Davis, Keelan Lewis Davis, Kelsey Brenn Davis, and Airis Halsey Lewis. Also surviving are one brother, Bryce Lewis, and two sisters, Jean Roland and Mary Lou Barlow. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 3pm in the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joey McClure and Rev. Jeff Dollar officiating. The family received friends from 1:00-3:00pm. Graveside services followed at the West Jefferson City Cemetery.
The family request no flowers and memorials may be made to Three Top Baptist Church C/O Melanie Ball at 536 Ball Hollow Road, Grassy Creek, NC 28631 or Gentiva Hospice of Wilkes at 126 Executive Dr., #110, Wilkesboro, NC 28697.
