Barbara J. Pero, age 91 of Ashland, WI passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2025 in Ashland. She was born on August 29, 1934, the daughter of Kenneth and Gretchen (Hoaglan) Megonigle.

She was united in marriage to John Pero on April 25, 1955, and they raised five children together. While raising their children, she was a homemaker and donated a great deal of her time at St. Agnes. She remained active in her church throughout her life, in later years with prayer intentions for the prayer-chain.

She found joy in simple things such as rocking a baby to sleep, reading and gardening. She could be found in her flower beds from spring to fall, well into her eighties, (not a weed to be found!) She was known for her kindness, generosity and strength and always had an extra seat at the table.

She is survived by her brother, Paul Megonigle (Florida); sister-in-law, Doris Megonigle (Iowa); sister-in-law Alice (Don) Wolfgram (Marshfield); and brother-in-law, Del Anderson (Kenosha). She is also survived by her five children; Vicky (Tom) Pingel, Dave (Pat) Pero, Kim (Pete) Hilgus, Mike (Dana) Pero, and Lori (Tim) Fisher. Nothing brought her more joy than her role as Grandma to her 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, (with one more on the way).

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Pero; brothers, Byron Megonigle and Tim Megonigle; sister, Judy Megonigle.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 12 noon, Friday, October 17th 2025 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome D' Souza as celebrant.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue until the hour of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ashland and Mellen, WI.
