Margaret Oliphant

Margaret Ann Oliphant, age 79, of Marengo, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Northern Lights Health Care Center, in Washburn. She was born July 17, 1946, in Ashland, the daughter of Harold and Elsie (Holz) Olson.

Margaret spent her early years in Mellen, WI and graduated from Mellen High School, in 1964. On March 11, 1967, she married Brian F. Oliphant, in Duluth, MN. Margaret was confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marengo, in October of 1971. She worked in Duluth for a short time and then went to work at Munsingwear, in Ashland. Margaret then worked in medical records at Memorial Medical Center, in Ashland, for 40 years, prior to her retirement, in July of 2014. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Marengo and was a volunteer at the Thrift Shop, in Ashland. Margaret was always busy gardening and tending to her animals. She especially enjoyed her horses and riding and racing at local fairs. Margaret was very proud to teach kids and her grandkids to ride horse and kept them involved with the 4-H program. She also enjoyed camping, travelling, canning knitting, and reading many books. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Her family and friends will greatly miss her potato salad and chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by her loving husband, Brian; children, Scott (Denise) Oliphant, Todd (Tara) Oliphant, and Jeff (Heidi) Oliphant; grandchildren, Travis (Nicole Montoya) Oliphant, Jocelyn (Logan Nortunen) Oliphant, Samantha (Erik) Johnson, Brianna (Chris) Olby, Everett Oliphant and Aurora Oliphant; and a great-granddaughter, Adeline Olby.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Russell on October 6, 2012.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Marengo, with Pastor Arleigh Von Seggern officiating. Interment will take place in the Maple Grove Cemetery, in Marengo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at the church. Following the graveside service, everyone is invited to a lunch at the church.
