Ronald "Flint" Halbe, age 71, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. He was born on June 1, 1952 in Ashland, the son of Donald and Margaret (Kurilla) Halbe.
Ron graduated from Ashland High School in 1970. He married Susan Wiberg on July 1, 1972 in Ashland. Ron worked at Munsingwear in Ashland as a mechanic and then worked at Bretting Manufacturing until his retirement in 2015. He was a Master woodworker and avid golfer. He loved spending time outdoors, camping and enjoyed traveling with his family. He coached youth baseball for 15 years as his kids moved up through Little League and Babe Ruth League and several years after his children grew out of the program. In addition, he coached his younger son's hockey team for 8 years. Ron was a member of the Ashland Elks for 38 years and moved up through the chairs served as Exalted Ruler for a year. He was a Board member of the Bay Area Civic Center for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Halbe of Ashland, 2 sons, Paul (Heather) Halbe – Ashland and Tony (Christie) Halbe – Lakeville, MN, 4 grandchildren, Zach Halbe, Kathleen Halbe, Camdon Halbe, Ethan Petersen and 2 great-grandchildren, Melky and Micaiah Halbe, 3 sisters, Shari Olby – Ashland, Ginger Joanis – Green Bay and Dawn Boudreau – Green Bay and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
