Dr. Klingaman was probably the best professor I ever had, and his style of teaching probably impacted my life more than any other instructor. He was also the hardest grader of any class I ever took. My first exam with Dr. Klingaman was for Econ. 301, Money nd Banking in 1981 or 1982. He gave me an 85/100 - - and that was the tops for the entire class.

And that was why he was such a special professor - - he didn't just teach, he made you think. And he forced you to verbalize effectively and efficiently.

Dr. Klingaman greatly impacted me as a student, and that impact has carried over for the past 40 years of my life and career. He will forever be in my memories, and I will forever be grateful for having known him.

I took Economics 101 in the Fall of 1971 with Professor Klingaman. He was an interesting and engaging teacher who opened up my brain to a lot of new knowledge.

David Klingaman joined Department of Economics in 1967 when I (RAJ), had already completed two years at Ohio University. In 1968, after my wife Manju joined me here in Athens, we invited Dave and Helen for an Indian dinner at our home. They were open to new cuisines and both enjoyed the evening. After that we frequently had dinners in each other’s homes. Our daughter Vinita and and their daughter Kit were born in 1969 and they were two weeks apart. From that time onwards our friendship bloomed and we became close friends.
Dave had a good grasp of Economic theories and we enjoyed discussions on various issues on Economics. We both respected each other’s opinions and advise on any matters of life. Dave was fond of jazz and many times he asked me to join him to go for live concerts of jazz. Also, Dave was very knowledgeable about cars and motorcycles. That was his hobby to go distant places riding motorcycles. And he did. He advised us also when we were going to buy a new car. He was curious to learn about different cultures and customs. Thus our discussions were varied but enjoyable.
After retirement too Dave and I continued meeting for lunches. Manju and Helen met for tea in their homes. Even Vinita and Kit became good friends.
Dave was always smiling and over the years, we found him extremely social, hospitable and a pleasing person.
We will really miss his smiling face and the meetings. The memories of our meetings and friendship will always be part of us. W
We pray to the Almighty God to give peace to the departed soul in heaven.
