Kevin Doughty Obituary

Albany Kevin Leon Doughty, age 65 of Albany, OH, passed away Monday, June 2, 2025. Kevin was born on November 14, 1959, in Athens, OH, to the late Dorothy L. Dinsmoor and James L. Doughty. Kevin was a man of exceptional wisdom, grit, and ingenuity. He was a fixer of all things, and his advice was sought by many.

Kevin is survived by the love of his life, Teresa J. (Watson) Doughty. Together, they shared 41 years of marriage and have three children: Erin (Kyle) Thomas of Shade, OH; Kevin "Ike" (Erin) Doughty of Shade, OH; and James "Ben" (Sarahi Lopez) Doughty of Georgetown, KY. Kevin adored his four grandchildren, Reece Doughty, Aubrey Thomas, Gabriel Thomas, and Grace Doughty, to whom he was the best "Grumpy."

In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Kevin is survived by his sister, Linda Harrah, and brother, Michael Doughty. He is also survived by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends who will miss him dearly.

Kevin graduated from Athens High School in 1978. He went on to complete electrical training at the Southern Ohio Skills Center in Jackson, OH. He opened his own business, Doughty's Appliances in Athens, then went on to work in the Maintenance Department at Ohio University. He retired from Ohio University as Building Maintenance Supervisor.

Kevin built the family home by hand in 1980, where the family still gathers to swim, hike in the woods, and work in the garage. In the early 2000s, he started "Doughty Club Pigs" with his kids as part of their 4-H experience. Kevin took pride in helping his children learn what it takes to raise farm animals, also teaching other children and families how to raise pigs. He wanted everyone to enjoy the 4-H experience and to have memories to cherish. This legacy continues with his grandchildren.

Kevin enjoyed ramp picking, mushroom hunting, cutting firewood, and making maple syrup with his family. He loved traveling with his wife in their "4-wheel camper;" they made two amazing trips out West, a trip to Maine, and many local trips with friends and family. Kevin enjoyed researching his family history, especially learning about the Dinsmoors. He and Teresa took trips to visit family landmarks, including the Garden of Eden, located in Kansas.

Kevin fought a rare form of appendix cancer for four years. When diagnosed in 2021, doctors told him he had "months, not years." Not one to give up, Kevin did extensive research to find an internationally recognized cancer surgeon with the expertise to tackle his rare cancer. Kevin went through eight rounds of chemotherapy and underwent four major surgeries, with one lasting 17 hours. He always remained positive and strong for his family and friends. During his own health journey, Kevin took pride in helping other family and friends navigate medical challenges. He would like everyone to know that they're not alone and to stay strong. As Kevin would say, "Give it Hell," and he truly did.

The family wants to express their deep gratitude to Kevin's surgical oncologist, Dr. David L. Bartlett, and his amazing team at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, PA, for their steady support and determination. Family and friends will be forever grateful to Dr. Bartlett and the team for the years of additional memories made with Kevin.

Friends may call Sunday, June 8th, from 1-3 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in The Garden Cemetery, Lodi Township. In lieu of flowers, please contribute in Kevin's memory to the Bartlett Cancer Research Fund - Allegheny Health Network at https://www.ahn.org/about/support-ahn.
