Rita Rannells

Albany Rita Jean Hall Hysell-Rannells, of Albany, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2025. A lifelong resident of Athens County, Ohio who deeply loved her community. She worked for many years at Columbia Gas and The City of Athens until she retired.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Quay Hall and Mildred Frances Wilson Hall, Sons Kevin Scott Hysell and Dwayne Brant Hysell, brother Richard Hall and Sister Carla Kelzenberg.

She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Rannells of Albany, son Derek Hysell (Malinda), grandchildren: Christopher Hysell (Emily), Jeffrey Hysell, Richard Hysell (Kristina), Bryant Hysell, Kimberly Hysell and Tiffany Hysell. Great Grandchildren: Lilian, Bridgett Rose, and Evie.

Rita led a fulfilling life, enjoying quality time with her family, travelling, playing cards, and appreciating fine wine. She maintained lasting friendships with numerous classmates and valued opportunities to travel and visit them. An avid bowler (44 years), crafter; making handmade greeting cards, knitter and motorcycle rider. Rita served as Vice-President of the Albany Community Center Seniors and participated in chair volleyball and euchre. She was a member of Albany Global Methodist Church, playing the piano for 20 years.

Services will be at 4:00 P.M. at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, with Pastor Debbie Brookins officiating. Visitation is Tuesday 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. prior to services at the funeral home. As per her wishes cremation will follow services.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made the Humane Society, P.O. Box 765 Athens, Ohio 45701, for the spaying and neutering of cats.
