Tom was my first supervisor at Athens County Children Services, and I was part of the family preservation unit. Tom was passionate about supporting and preserving families as much as possible, and he knew the value of providing services at the very beginning of a family's time with the agency. Working with him has had a lasting impact on my work to this day. Tom and I stayed in regular contact after I moved, and we shared cards and letters over the years. Not only was Tom pro family at work, he was also dedicated to his own family. He frequently wrote about Paula, his daughter Lyndsay, and his granddaughters. He loved them so much! Tom did what most of us would hope to do: make his part of the world a better place.

Lindsey & Paula - I send my love and comforting thoughts. Tom was such a wonderful guy. I'll never forget seeing him at Marietta Basketball games and getting treats like chocolate cake! He left the world a better place with his gentle kindness and wit.

Tom was my supervisor when I worked at Athens County Children Services and he was the gold standard. He was always kind, supportive, and encouraging and he was so respectful of the people that we served. He had a quiet sense of humor and I can still hear him answering my question with, "Well, what do YOU think?" He will be greatly missed as someone with such integrity and deep kindness in our community.

Mere words are not enough to express my admiration for Tom. He was an exemplary citizen and advocate for the children and families of Athens County. I considered him a very dear friend. My late husband, Dr. Bill Carlson, was a pediatrician and often worked closely with Tom. Bill also thought extremely highly of him. They were so close that Tom spoke at Bill's memorial. I will always remember his kind words. My heartfelt sympathy to his whole family, especially his wife, Paula, and daughter, Lindsey. God bless you all.

Goodbye Dear Tom. You made a lot of memories. I'm sure your spirit will be enjoying the garden you built by planting bulbs and seeds. Those were the good deeds you lived by. Paula and family, thinking of you.

How many men can we say were so kind, thoughtful, and full of grace. I feel so blessed that Tom was my cousin. He’d visit us here in NH. I love to see old pictures of Tom and his brother Dick up on Black Mountain. Thank you Tom for having been in my life. Wishing peace to Tom’s family, friends, and caregivers. We were all blessed by his calm presence.
