Barbara Spadafora Obituary
Sarasota, FL - Barbara Louise Spadafora (nee Betourney) born April 3, 1937 passed away peacefully on Oct 7, 2022 in Sarasota, FL. Barbara was born in Miami, FL to Remi E. and Francise Betourney (nee King) and raised in Athol, MA. She graduated from Athol Regional High 1955 and earned her nursing degree at St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester. She married Joseph Spadafora of Pittsfield, MA in 1959, lived in Orange from 1958-1986 before moving to Sarasota, FL. She had three sons: Peter, married to Melanie, currently living in New London, NH and parents of Jake and Matthew. Jay, currently living in Lemont, IL and parents of Joseph, Dylan, Ethan and Mia. Jeff, married to Michelle, currently living in Evergreen, CO, parents of Denika, Neal, and Quinn.
She worked as a nurse in Orange at local schools and day care centers before taking time off to raise her family. She loved being a part of the community and was an avid fan of the local youth and high school sports teams - not to mention the Red Sox and Patriots. Beginning in 1980 her eye for design and interior decorating led her to a career representing different artists and craftspeople from around New England.
She had the gift of hospitality, a willingness to always lend an ear, and was a devoted grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 2. Her husband Joe passed away Oct 6, 2016 and her ashes will be spread next to his at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sarasota FL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held there on Saturday Jan 7, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.
