R. Frederic Ashenden

Rye, NH — R. Frederic Ashenden, 80, of Rye, NH, formerly of Hampton, NH and Billerica, MA passed away peacefully September 26, 2022. He was born June 1, 1942 in Winchester, MA, the son of the late Richard and Margaret (Fairfield) Ashenden.

Fred was raised in Winchester, attended the local schools, and was a veteran serving with the US Navy. As a mechanical engineer, he was employed at LL Rowe & Company, a marine supply equipment business in Woburn, MA, then at Polymer Design Company, and later at Boston Endo-Surgical Technologies, before retiring at age 65.

Most recently, Fred was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hampton. Throughout his life, his love of music shown through as he served as organist and guest organist at many churches, enjoyed singing in many choirs and with the Hampton Chorale. He was also an avid Bridge player his entire life, most often with his wife, Judy, as his partner.

He was the husband of the late Judith (Murray) Ashenden who predeceased him in 2019.

He leaves his daughter Rev. Dr. Candice Ashenden, pastor of the Athol Congregational Church, Athol, MA, her spouse, Pamela Oddy of Orange, MA, and grandchildren, William and Christina Ashenden.

Services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut Street, Athol, MA with Rev. Cindy LaJoy officiating. Friends are respectfully invited. Private burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. In lieu of traditional remembrances, donations may be made to the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut Street, Athol, MA 01331.
