Wayne Newton Obituary
Wayne was born July 15, 1945, son of the late Willard and the late Dorothy (Winchester) Newton. Wayne served as the Royalston Fire Chief for 35 years until his retirement in 2008. He was the organist for the 1st & 2nd Congregational Churches of Royalston for over 40 years. Wayne was also a school bus driver and owned and operated Wayne R. Newton Building and Excavation.
As a lifelong Royalston resident, Wayne served on the town's Cemetery Commission, the Conservation Commission, the Planning Board and as a member of the J.N. Bartlett Fund. Wayne also served on the Worcester West Forest Fire Warden Association and was proud to be a committee head for the Athol High School Lights Committee.
He leaves his son: Scott Newton and significant other, Mary Amero; his daughter: Jennifer Winters and husband, Michael; stepson: Joseph Spear and wife, Amanda; stepdaughters: McKenzie Spear and significant other, Nick Robbins and Colleen Spear; as well as eight grandchildren; three brothers: Willard Newton, Geoffrey Newton and wife, Diana and Keith Newton and wife, Deborah; two sisters: Anne Robertson and husband, Lyall and Deborah Bullock and husband, Fred; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Wayne's memory to the Royalston Fire and EMS Association, P.O. Box 53, Royalston, MA 01368.

My condolences to Scott, Geoff, and the rest of the family. How many school kids learned how to evacuate a bus from Wayne? Having grown up in Royalston in the 70's-early 90's, the Newton name is very well known in town. Wayne will be missed. May he be at peace and may you heal from your loss.

When I moved to Royalston in 1973, I soon became familiar with Wayne, a stalwart of this town. I came to appreciate his commitment to community life here. I heard Wayne play mournful organ music at a couple of funerals I attended, and then found out he played in a rock band in his youth. I said to Wayne, "That's cool. You should play at Royalston Open Mic sometime!" He just smiled. The last time I saw him, he had recovered from illness, and he was out and about delivering the Athol Daily News, and we had a friendly conversation. Rest in peace, Wayne. Sincere sympathy wishes to Willard, Geoff, Keith and all other family and friends.

I grew up in south Royalston and went to church where he play the piano. He was a great guy. When i got older i would talk to him when he delivered the daily news. He will be deaply missed . god speed Wayne.

I am sooo sorry to hear about Wayne. He was such a sweet man. I used to love going on his paper route with him. After he had to stop the route, I used to stop at his house all the time to talk to him. I will miss him greatly! Prayers to all of his family.
