Andrew MESSINA Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

MESSINA, Andrew ANDREW MESSINA The world has lost a very special young man. Andrew was wise and retrospective beyond his years. A defender of human injustices, a defender of his beliefs in humanity, a devoted Son and Friend to all that knew him. He was a true Artist, Vocalist, and Poet and used each of these media to express his innermost feelings. His love for animals and their preservation gave him comfort and motivation to campaign for their rights. Life, Ecology and Human Dignity, combined with a desire and drive to help others made Andrew a unique and loved person. Andrew left an indelible mark on all that knew him. To know him was to love him. His mind was amazing and was always thinking of others and put his Family and Friends above his own interests. His thoughts and beliefs were deep and sincere and he was always true to them. As we look back at his short time on this Earth, his passing will leave a void in all of our lives but his memory will always bring a smile and comfort to all. We thank Andrew and we will all miss him. Andrew was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Anna Messina. Survivors include his parents, Nicholas and Lisa Antonucci Messina, Woodstock; his grandparents, Roger and Ann Antonucci, Woodstock, GA, his God Parents Uncle and Aunt, Richard and Melanie Thompson, Woodstock; three Aunts, Denise Antonucci, Woodstock, Jennifer Sica (Anthony), Philadelphia, PA., and Diane Balush, Philadelphia, PA; cousins, Lauren Thompson Reardon (Stephen) and family, Tommy (Selena) Liciardello and family, Michael Balush, Nicholas Balush, Anthony Sica, Justin Sica, and John Sica, all of Philadelphia, PA; his dog Jessie Messina. Funeral services will be held 4 P.M. Monday May 7, 2012 at Hillside United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Thrasher officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday May 6, 2012 from 5-9 P.M. at Woodstock Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Pals Place, 4508 Canton Road, Marietta, GA 30066. He was my best friend. We even had a band together. I'll miss our introspective conversations, and band practices after school, but most of all I'll miss what he did for me, and everyone around us. RIP, Friend.

I met him about six years ago...and I was impressed...he was smart and sweet...and by all accounts he grew to be a son of which his parents were proud...his battles are over now...he is safe and warm and in the arms of our Loving Father...and Heaven will just be that much sweeter...Good night friend.

I've known Andrew since the 6th grade, he and I were at the same middle school together for three years. Back when I was in the middle school, there were some kids who were being mean to me. Andrew did not just stand there, he actually walked up to them, and told them to stop.
Also Andrew was a gifted musician, he loved playing the guitar. I've heard him play the guitar many times before back when we were in middle school together. I've always in enjoyed listening to him. Not only that I could already imagine him as a famous and well-known musician.
I will always miss him, and always remember him.

Lisa and Nick-I am so sorry to hear of this tragedy. I was just remembering you, Lisa, and Andrew last week and our talks about how bright and precocious Andrew was (Spur Lane.) I remember him as being an adorable kindergartener. I know that Andrew is in a wonderful place now, a place of peace and joy and relief from his suffering--my prayers are for you a Nick to get through this and somehow find peace. God Bless you Both.

I met Andrew when he was in the 6th grade and taught him in 6th and 8th grade. He never said an unkind word about another student. He was a true friend to all. He will be deeply missed by anyone who had the opportunity to share his creative spirit.

When Andy transferred to Etowah at the beginning of the 2nd semester, he was placed in my 4th period American Literature class. Even though he and I never really talked, he touched my heart in such a way that life without him is not the same. He was so smart, and always had something to say when we were reading poems or stories. He seemed to understand exactly what the poets were trying to say. He also did not care at all about what others thought about him. He always seemed to care about everybody's opinion, no matter what his thoughts on the matter were. It is so very odd to look at the desk he used to sit in and to think that he is physically gone. He is still in all of our hearts, all of our memories, and all of our thoughts. Andrew, we all miss and love you. Save us all a seat at your concert in Heaven when we get there. RIP Andrew...RIP.

Andrew was such an intellectual being, a joy to speak to and listen to. He was wise beyond his years and had such a passion for human and animal justices. He was well loved and will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to you, Nick and Lisa. I cannot begin to understand your pain, but I will pray God's peace and comfort over you.

My first Memory of Andy: His first week at school, we were sitting in the same row of chairs in our class we shared. Our friend was sitting between Andy and I, and I seemed to be having a very bad day. I was telling our friend between us about my bad day, and the teacher called him to his desk and Andy scooted over into his seat and said, "Ya know, seems we always have those days sometimes and there's nothing anyone can say to make it better but there's always tomorrow." I smiled and said, "Thank you, that is so nice of you" and his response was, "Anytime, I'm Andy by the way and I like your boots."

With deepest sympathy to the Messina family during your time of grief...Psalm 46:1...God is for us a refuge and strength, A help that is readily to be found during difficult times...May God provide you with peace and comfort to endure the days ahead.

I never met Andrew in person, but he and I chatted a lot and advised each other. I had never, before him, thought I could take advice from a 16 year old. He was wise beyond his years, and this tragic incident so opposite from how I knew and will remember him. He has touched so many people, as anyone can see from his facebook page and I only hope that knowing how loved he was, and by how many he will be remembered that it helps even a little in easing your grief and pain. He will live on in our hearts, and in all of our thoughts as his impact is now fully realized. You raised an amazing son, and I know he was happy to have you as parents.

You will be missed very much!

You always inspired me to be me. Not a day goes by where I don't miss you. You made me smile, laugh and cry tears of joy everytime we were together. I cherrish every moment that we've spent together and hope that you are in a better place and smiling down on all of us. Be happy Andy, that's all anyone has ever wanted from you. I love you so much.

Andrew was my daughter's very close friend. She considered him her brother. I personally met Andrew on a number of occasions and every time he was very polite and respectful to me. I was impressed at his upstanding character and consideration for others. He was selfless, always considering others first. What happened to him is a tragedy and should never have happened. May the Lord God Jehovah comfort the Messina family in this time of extreme grief.

Dear Lisa and Nick, We were devastated when we learned what happened. Although I only knew Andrew a short time, I was very impressed with him as an adolescent, especially in what can be a very cruel society youth live in today. He was always very respectful and polite to me. Valerie was very close to him and considered him her brother. She is really taking this hard. Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. This tragedy should never have happened and we can only ask for the Lord God Jehovah's comfort to you.

Messina (as I referred to you as)- you were my favorite socialist pacifist. you were my hippie, my best and most passionate debater. you will be remembered for the beautiful, free loving spirit and open heart you displayed to others everyday-- and not defined by one single life event. you will always be perceived by the content of your character which was kind, loving and forgiving. forever peace is now with you but those that love you mourn the loss of your smile on the planet.

I am very glad you felt close and talk to me some of the things we talked, like friends, family school etc.
They will all stay with me as a wonderful memories as long as I live.

May 5, 2012

I never met Andrew but I thought the obituary in today's paper was the deepest, most beautiful I've ever read. He must have been a truly great human being and I'm sorry that his life was cut short. It is a great loss to the world, but maybe his companionship to others while he lived will influence and continue his mission to love and revere beauty, intelligence and truth.
