McAFEE, Jr., Arthur J. Arthur J. McAfee, Jr., former Morehouse College Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2018, 11:00 AM at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel, 830 Westview Dr., SW, Atlanta, GA 30314. Rev. Dr. Edward Lawrence Carter, Sr., Officiating. Mr. McAfee will lie in state from 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery. In lieu flowers, please donate and make checks payable to the Arthur J. McAfee, Jr Memorial Scholarship Fund The viewing will be Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Alfonso Dawson Mortuary 3000 Martin Luther King, Jr., Dr, SW, Atlanta, GA 30311 404-691-3810.

Fond memories of attending Morehouse home games with my father and hanging out with Coach McAfee. Arthur McAfee, Jr. was a gentleman and a scholar, a mentor to generations of Morehouse men whose dedication, loyalty, wisdom and sportsmanship influenced and inspired everyone who knew him. Coach McAfee was a SPECIAL man! He was a gift from God. I will miss his smile and his "Hey Man" or "Hey Partner" greeting he shared with all. I also, will miss seeing the LOVE he showed for Mrs. (Sylvia) McAfee, Gwen, Arthur, Sylvia and his grandchildren. You guys had a great (HUSBAND) and (DAD)! Plus the love that he had for each and every one of his players! Coach McAfee also loved the Morehouse College family too. Coach was an awesome roll model,father figure,teacher,and mentor. And a friend to all that were fortunate to share the court with him!!

"SOONY" ARTHUR MCAFEE WAS MY BROTHERE-IN-LAW'S BROTHER! I MET "SONNY: IN THE SUMMER ON 1950 IN WICHITA, KANSAS, WHERE MY SISTER GLORIA AND MY BROTHER RR RUPERT SPENT THE SUMMER! "SONNY" AND I WERE ENROLLED IN COLLEGE AT THE THEN WICHITA UNIVERSITY. "SONNY" WAS ROEKING AT THE CORNER DRUGSTORE AND DELIVERED PERSSCRIPTIONS BY AUTO. HE WOULD PICK UP TO GO ON THE DELIVERIES! HE REALLY KNOEW HOW TO DRIVE AND HANDLE A CAR!! HE DROVE WITH SPEED AND ACCURACY TO AN INCH OF WHERE TO PUT THE CAR!!! IT WAS ALWAYS A BEAUTIFUL DRIVE WITH HIM!!
I WAS THE MVP AWARD N 1950 ON THE FOOTBALL TEAM AND "SONNY" WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO TELL ME!! WHILE EDWIN MOSES AND SPIKE LEE CALL HIM "COACH", I CALLED HIM "SONNY"!! IT WAS AN HONOR RO KNOW HIM!!
