Dear Angela,
I first met you through the Couples in Christ class at Ben Hill. Words can't express how much inspiration I received, listening to you and watching you live a truly obedient Christian life. I am so sorry to hear about Art's passing. I thank God I knew him, even for that short few years. May God bless you and Trey, and hold you gently in His hand. As you know, your weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. You are in my prayers.

I worked with Art when I was on staff with the Leadership Cobb program at the Cobb Chamber of Commerce 18 years ago. Because he made such a positive impact on me and so many others, I recognized his name and picture immediately. As others have said he was a wonderful Christian gentleman who leaves a true legacy of a a servant leader. Angie, Trey, Bunky, Charles and Family, words cannot adequately express my feelings at this time. Growing up just four doors away, playing football in the backyard with "Bro" and my brothers; family gatherings, and Spelman /Atlanta support, created an extended family that will be cherished forever. Art lived a full life and made a difference with everyone and thing he touched. Be strong and know that "...The work he did speaks for him..." The out-pouring of love, affection, and condolence, expressed by so many friends during our family's grieving is over-whelming, and touching, My Uncle Bull, (Art) to so many of you; was truly "A man for all seasons." It is in his passing that I have begun to understand just why "we,'" are here. To love each other as God has loved us, and to help our fellows." I hope that in losing the physical Art, we can each gain a spiritual piece of his character, and carry on the journey he walked in loving God, and serving or fellows...

The McClung family: I read through the condolences offered by so many regarding Art's passing and I see words like gentleman, friend, mentor, integrity, Christian, respected, example and I echo each one. Since moving away from Atlanta I did not see Art on any regular basis as I did when we were involved in a number of community efforts, but I crossed his path at a public event a couple years back and was greeted by a smile and a hug as if ten years was a blink! I will miss my friend but will not forget such a wonderful man! I am so sorry for your loss.

Art's life is a beautiful memory,
His death fills our hearts with grief;
He sleeps in God's everlasting arms,
In His great love and perfect peace,
We will miss Art so very much,
So many lives he touched,
God knew him and loved him best,
He loaned Art to us for many years,
Then gently called him to rest.

My sympathies to the McClung family on our loss. I say our because knowing Art made the impression on all of us that we were important to him. I knew Art long before Morehouse. His Father, Arthur, Sr. was the Executive Director of the YMCA in Colored in Columbus, GA for as long as I can remember. When we went to the YMCA we saw Art, Jr.
Art, Jr was in the 1962 Class of William H. Spencer High School. To me, they were the brainiest class Spencer ever had. My brother, Jack Turner, was a member of that class along with Henry Hall, Morehouse '66, Lester Booth and others. They were Imperial Knights, a male social club at Spencer. They were the intellectuals of the male social clubs. They even had an intramural basketball game again another social Club, the Vikings. At half time, instead of resting and talking about how to catch the score up with brawns, they had pencil and paper and used a math formula to determine how many shots they need to take to defeat the Vikings. That was who they were, the brains, who also got the ladies.
I played in the Spencer Band with Art. When he came home in 1962 for the Morehouse Tuskegee parade and game as part of the Morehouse Band, I really took notice to the point where Morehouse became my college of choice. Mr. McClung, his father, even became one of my references to Morehouse. When I got to Morehouse in the Fall of 1964 for Freshman Week, Art and Henry Hall came to see me and offered advice on my courses and instructors. Upperclassmen at the House at that time took a real interest in the freshmen because they know how difficult Morehouse was, so they worked to make it better for us. That helping hand is how Art lived out his life. I know that and I can see that in the loving comments others have written about him.
Yes, we have lost a friend and an outstanding Morehouse Man. You, the McClung Family have lost more. I pray for your peace of mind and heart.

Dearest Namesake (Angela),
I can't help but to reflect on the wonderful man that Art was. Talk about a true servant of God....that was Art McClung all the way. His service to Ben Hill was an example to us all. He made sure that he took part in most things in relation to the church because he cared for his church and all who dwelled therein. Even as a doorkeeper in God's house, he served with pride. In fact my last hug from him was as he was serving on the door two weeks ago. I consider him a trooper to the end. So from now on, when it comes to examples of true service, I will always remember and refer to Art.
From me and my family, Namesake, I wish you and your family the very best during this period of remembrance. What a celebration for a man who knew God, walked with God and served God!! Many blessings to you all and I love you very much!!!
Your Namesake,
Mychal Walker

I consider Art to be an angel and I will truly miss him. Art was an ambassador for Christ and an example of what I believe God wants us to be as His children. He was humble, kind, sincere, peaceful and an all around honorable man. I am blessed to have had him take me under his wing as my mentor to help guide me early in my career and in my educational choices. I am forever grateful to carry with me all that I learned from him personally on how to be a good friend, companion, steward, manager, parent, and most of all Christian. I thank God that my life was touched by Art and for all that he unknowingly taught me.
