Marlene - We always enjoyed talking with you & Boom Boom as we waited in the hall at Mt. Paran North between services. Our son Corey admired and adored - and greatly respected - your husband. Boom always had a word of advice (or warning!!) for him, and would frequently end his advice with a big bear hug. When we learned he was ill, Corey (who is away at college) asked me to be sure to tell Boom Boom he loved him the next time I saw him at Church. Unfortunately, the next time was at his memorial service. What a wonderful legacy he leaves behind - his testimony of faith and his great love for his family. You are a beautiful and strong woman and are a shining example of the love of Christ. God bless you and your family. With much love, Sharon, Billy & Corey Sligh

To the Geoffrion family:

I only became aware of Bernie Geoffrion and the fabulous Montreal Canadiens on March 17, 1955. After that I became a dedicated fan of Boom Boom and the whole team.

I feel that Bernie Geoffrion is one of the most underrated players of all time. On so many occasions, he would be leading the league in scoring and then get injured. Even during his 50 goal season he missed some games.

I loved his style and his magnetic personality. He helped bridge the gap between the two solitudes. As long as there is hockey, Boom Boom will never be forgotten.

Thanks for the great hockey memories, Boomer!

My deepest sympathy to all the Geoffrion family. you are in my prayer. Even if i'm a young hockey fan, I used to know Boum Boum as a very talented hockey player.

Take care to all.

Marlene, Linda, Heartland, Mechelle, Stephen, Sterling, Steele,

I am so sad that I can't express my sympathy to you all in person at this time. I was thankful to find this guestbook so I could write to you from Kansas. In the few delighful converstations that I had with Bernie, his eyes were always full of joy and pride when he talked about his family. He loved and adored you so all much, and he had a wonderful way of making your friends feel like they were part of the family too. I promise to visit when I return to Georgia. In the meantime, know that John and I are thinking of you and praying for all of your family.

Love and God Bless - Bobbie

My deepest sympathy to the Geoffrion Family.

I was fortunate to live only a couple of blocks away from Boom,Boom.

He would always honk, and wave as he drove by in his convertable.

I got his autograph at a Richelieu grocery store not far from his home or mine. I still have it.

My dad had season tickets at the Forum, and I was there the night he scored 50th. and also the night of the Rocket Richard Riot, when the fans were afraid The Boomer would break Rocket's scoring title.

Dickie Moore, and Cliff Fletcher also lived only blocks away.

I lived in great hockey circles.

Bernie! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

Poppy, I cannot tell you how much I miss you, Alicia and the babies think of you everyday. I take great comfort knowing you were with us in Montreal and have been with the Lord. You were my hero, as you were so many peoples hero. I cherished every conversation we had since I was little and will now pass on those lessons to my kids. I love you more than you will ever know, and I have so much more to tell you. I know you will be by my side from here on out.

To my dad: I will always cherish the man you were, the kind and gentle spirit you had. You are now in the Lord's arms and that gives us all such peace. Mom is fine, Dad. She misses you so much, but we are all taking care of her. We will love you forever.

To all of you writing in these tributes, my brothers and I are printing them off and sharing them with Mom. We will put them in a book for her. We thank all of you hockey fans and friends all over that so graciously welcomed our family and let us share with you a child of God, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a great grandfather. God Bless all of you.

I was a pre-teen football player when hockey came to Georgia. Did not follow the sport that closely although I count myself a fan now (Stars and Thrashers are my main teams with the Flames my 2nd favorite Western Conference team). I always enjoyed listening to Boom Boom talk about hockey with such enthusiasm. My heartfelt condolences to the Geoffrion family on their loss.

Godspeed Boom Boom! As a 12-year old when the Flames came to Atlanta in 1972, it was you and Jiggs McDonald that introduced me to hockey and made me a life-long fan. I was crushed when "Da-Flames" left Atlanta in 1980. But, I was thrilled when the Thrashers arrived. Thanks for the wonderful memories! Rest in Peace!

Mon Cher Boom Boom.

Hockey has been a big part of my life growing up in Montreal watching Les Canadiens play as a child. But one of the biggest thrills was in recent years when my son Ryan played against your grandson Blake. You came to many of their games and I had a chance to meet you, talk about the HABS and introduce my son you to as well. What a thrill! You were so pleasant and polite. Our family has been touched by a hockey legend and a great ambassador of the game. You will be remembered as "Mr. Slapshot". Merci pour les memoires.

Thanks for the memories.

Bernie Geoffrion was an original and there will probablly never be another like him. I remember when he came to Atlanta with the Flames and took the city by storm. Cliff Flecther was one smart cookie, no one could do it like "Boom Boom.At the height of his popularity I honestly think Bernie could have run for Mayor of Atlanta......and won. My sincere condolences to the Geoffrion family. Thanks for the memories Bernie.

"Thanks for the memory" says it all. Growing up in the '50's in Montreal, the Boomer was my hero. I had his pictures taped to my bedroom walls, and of course, had a crush on him. It was a huge disappointment last Sat. when CBC chose not to televise the pre-game ceremony. Though we left Montreal in '65, the one thing I couldn't let go was my hockey team. I'm "the world's greatest" Canadiens fan. God bless Marlene and the "kids". I saw snippets of the ceremony, and be sure, Boom Boom was mighty proud of you all. Thanks, Bernie and team-mates, for all those hockey moments I've enjoyed so much.

March 16, 2006

Marlene, Linda, Robert & Danny,

Our deepest sympathy to the entire Geoffrion Family. Martha & I feel extremely blessed to have personally known Marlene and Boom during the past five years in Florida. Back in October we were overjoyed with gladness and felt so lucky to be able to be present for the retirement of Boom’s #5 at the Centre Bell in Montreal.

During the past few weeks we know how difficult it was for all of you. On Saturday, March 11, 2006, the sadness of not seeing Boom on the ice was almost too much to take. But when we saw Marlene, Linda & his boys, Robert and Danny step onto the red carpet our tears of sadness turned into cheers of joy.

While we all know how anxiously Boom awaited for his “Blue-Blanc-Rouge” sweater to be hung high next to his Father-in-law’s #7, you could feel the presence of both their spirits hugging each other in the rafters of the Centre Bell---this was God’s will! What a feeling! Boom now had it all. We easily envisioned Boom’s arms around Howie Morenz and both Montreal Hall of Famers watching their family below with all the love and pride anyone could ever imagine. The Geoffrion’s exhibited a dignity, a grace, and class that we haven’t seen since Jacqueline Kennedy showed America how to honor her deceased husband and our beloved President, John F. Kennedy.

As a young boy in New York City I was fortunate to have seen Boom Boom and the Montreal Canadiens play the New York Rangers in the Old Madison Square Garden on 8th avenue and 50th street. My father’s family would visit us from Drummondville, Quebec and the whole family would go to the Old Madison Square Garden. Of course, we would cheer for Les Canadiens to beat the Broadway Blues. When Boom came to the Rangers we traded our allegiance to the Rangers. When I played roller hockey in New York City’s CYO Hockey League I wore # 5. And as an adult playing Senior Ice Hockey, I wore #5. When I told Boom he was my idol as a kid growing-up, he lovingly gave me a love tap on the chin. And, in that deep French Canadian accent said,… “your wife (Martha) is too young to have seen me play for Montreal, and Tommy, you are too old to have seen me play hockey.” As always, Boom was the “joie de vivre”. Boom, we will miss you but know the Angels above are glad to have you in their arms. Marlene, you will always be in our prayers and we are always here for you. Your children are the true testament to you and Boom. God Bless.

All our love,

Martha & Tom from Boca

As a child growing up in Atlanta in the early 1970s, I needed a team and a sport to cheer. Hockey was a virtual unknown and long before all the media outlets and TV packages available now. I credit Boom Boom and Jiggs for bringing games to life over the radio waves. I recall listening to da-Flame games in my room long after my bed-time as a kid. I credit them with introducing me to the wonderful game of hockey, still the only team sport I care to watch. Thank you Boom Boom and Jiggs. God bless you and your families.

March 16, 2006

I had the pleasure of growing up in Ville St. Laurent, a suburb of Montreal, just a few doors down from Boom Boom and his family. I remember being a very little girl and watching him wash his car during the summer months. He was very big and tanned and had the warmest smile and used to tease all the neighbourhood kids.

The Geoffrions were also the only family on the block to have a backyard swimming pool, and this made them all the more exotic to me. I remember playing in that pool with their kids, Danny, Bobby and Linda and thinking that Mrs. Geoffrion was such a pretty lady.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to the Geoffrion family. As a kid growing up in the fifties he was my hero and I carried that respect for him throughout my life.

MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO ALL BOOMER'S FAMILY. HIS YEAR WITH THE RANGERS IN 1967 INITIALLY GOT ME INTERESTED IN HOCKEY: THAT YEAR REMAINS A CHERISHED TEENAGE MEMORY OF WHAT STILL IS A LOVE OF THE GAME. HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY BROUGHT BACK GREAT MEMORIES: IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE BOOKS. MAY HE REST IN PEACE. THE "SLAP SHOT" STILL RINGS TRUE!

March 15, 2006

I have been a fan of hockey all my life. I have always thought of the Montreal Canadians as the great organization. The history and all those Stanley Cup Championships is awsome. I had the privilige of meeting "Boom Boom" on the night he presented Ilya Kovalchuk with the "Maurice Richard Trophy" on Oct. 22. This will be one of my greatest hockey memories. My thoughts are with the family. He was one of the greastest!

March 15, 2006

To the Geoffrion Family: Your loss is great, but remembering how great "he" was is everlasting. Just the mention of his name brings me back to the late '50's when my dad and I would watch all of the greats at the old old Forum. Boom Boom was always one of our long time favourites. Rest in Peace, and the tribute you received last Saturday was yours to keep.

James Wishart

March 15, 2006

My deepest condolences to the Geoffrion family. The Boomer will be sadly missed. I can remember the "Glory Years" like it was yesterday....the boomer coming down the wing taking a pass from "Big Jean" and letting a slap shot go for a big goal. One can only dream of those wonderful hockey years!! We'll miss you Boom Boom.

March 15, 2006

Dear Marlene and Family,

We wish to express our deepest sympathy. My husband and I only got to know Boom Boom a few years ago at church. We always had such fun in the hall waiting for Dr. Mark to finish his first service. Boom Boom always made us laugh and tried to sell us the church bulletin for $1.00.

I will always remember when he came to tell us he had cancer and my husband said to him, "Remember the name above all names", and he replied, "You got it".

We will see him again some day.

Love in Christ,

"Boom Boom" helped promote and teach the game of hockey to the people of the south in 1972 when the Atlanta Flames were born. We absolutely loved the way he pronounced his words and immediately took a liking to him. He always seemed very happy when he was telling us about his game.

I was not old enough to see him play but greatly enjoyed his presence behind the bench of "da Flame". I was a season ticket holder for the Flames.

Hockey could have no better promoters of the game than the "Boomer" and our play-by-play man Jiggs McDonald.

I met him only one time at a local Atlanta business after our beloved Flames moved to Calgary. He was wonderful and gracious and I will miss him greatly. Condolences to his family.

Denny Donegan

March 15, 2006

I have many hockey memories. But,

seeing "Boom Boom" play in that fifty goal season and watching him coach the Atlanta Flames will always be at the top of the list. I am so glad that he got to make one last appearance at an Atlanta Thrashers game this season. As usual, he was all class.

Lynne & Mario Alfonso

March 14, 2006

We send all of our love and heartfelt condolences to you, Linda, Marlene and your family. While we never had the pleasure of watching Boom play hockey, we were privleged to be able to know him as a friend. Despite the incredible hero he was as a player, his success as a husband, father and grandfather outshines it all. He will surely be missed by so many, but we all know he was welcomed with open arms by God. He'll never stop cheering you on.

March 14, 2006

As a longtime fan of the Montreal Canadians and as a child remembering such folk heroes as Jean Beliveau and Boom Boom Geoffrion, I wish to express my condoleances to the entire family. However, on a personal note, I also attended school with Linda Geoffrion at the Mother House in Montreal in l970-l972 and wish to express my personal sympathy to her and her family in this time of their grief. It is hard when it is so public to share such a private feeling, yet I would not be able to have shared my sadness with Linda and her family if her father had not been such a public character in the history of Quebec sports history. I realize many years have passed since we went to school together yet there was a special feeling to have met such a special person who had such a public and popular father. God bless and take care and in the years to come be comforted by all the people who knew and cared for Boom Boom in his public and private life.

Goodbye to my boyhood hero. I only met Boom Boom once, but the memory stayed with me my entire life. I player hockey from the age of 5-14 and wore number 5 every year. At the age of 7 and 9 I refused to play unless the coach gave me number 5. I won the battle.

I feel privilaged to have seen hockey played by the greatest of them all.

My Mom took me and my brother to our first NHL game back in 1972 when the Flames played the North Stars at the Omni. I listened to the Flames on the radio from then on and I especially enjoyed the interviews between Jiggs McDonald and the Boomer. It's amazing how close you can get to someone even though you've never met them in person. It's safe to say that the Boomer is a big reason why I still love the game today. RIP, Boomer. I wish I could have watched the ceremony on TV.

Unfortunately, the CBC did not carry the Canadiens-Rangers game, choosing to show the Leafs-Lightning.

Hockey fans in Georgia are feeling every bit as empty as all Canada for the loss of "Boom Boom" Geoffrion. Even as a native Georgian who was fortunate, as a young boy, to experience this game on television via CBS Sports. However, when de Flame were born, as Boomer probably pronounced it, when I was a teenager. My interest in hockey soared. Boomer probably had the most to do with hockey rising to the popularity it does now, even now with the Thrashers. Boomer's flamboyant personality caught the eye of a lot of Georgian's, not just in Atlanta. His record in the early years of Atlanta hockey history, showed his worth as a coach in leading the Flames to the playoffs in only their second season. Even after his coaching days were over, I still was glued to Flames' telecasts where the chemistry between he and Jiggs MacDonald worked like a charm. Perhaps sometimes I had to take a double take when he pronounced some words through that thick French accent of his, he was always a joy to listen to. I share the sorrow that all Canadien fans have for this great player, coach, and broadcaster. Au revoir Boomer!

Boomer,

As a young rookie off-ice official in Atlanta in 1972 you made me feel like a close friend every time we spoke. Over the years up to the end you had a way of always making me feel special so it was with great sadness I learned of your passing. Not only has hockey lost one of it's greats but the world has too. Good bye my friend.

As a young kid growing up in Lachine in the late 50's, I couldn't wait 'til 9 o'clock on every Saturday night to watch you and the rest of the "Flying Frenchmen" win another game. It seemed like you never lost!!! And now I know why. After hearing the wonderful things that Dickie Moore has to say about his 'ol sidekick "Boom", it's obvious that the love and admiration you had for each other, and no doubt all your other team mates, is what made you guys the best team ever. You epitomize the word team mates. Rest in peace Boomer. You were one of the greatest!!!

Dear Boom-Boom, after having grown up in Montreal, and having met you on several occassions, you always had a way of brightening up the room, with your smile, your humour, and your candid approach to life. May you be in a much better place now, and may you be much happier having re-joined your friends, Mr. Morenz, Mr. Plante, the Great Rocket Richard, Mr. Irvin, Toe Blake, and countless others..... may you and the ghosts rule again high above the ice, the banners, and all the Stanley Cups looking down on all of us with your ever lasting smile........ You will be sorely missed Bernard.

Thank You for all the memories..
